“Faded Glory”
Reviewed September 18, 2011

It must have been a wonderful hotel in its heyday, but not now. The grandeur of the public rooms does not carry through to the bedrooms that are strangely furnished with hideous modern furniture that clearly doesn't take the knocks. The walls are paper thin and the decor tired.
From our bedroom balcony we enjoyed a good view of the old spar town, but the huge tarpaulin spread out over the orangery roof, which presumably leaks, tended to catch the eye rather more.
The orangery restaurant was huge but devoid of atmosphere and staff. Service was not good, and a lot was expected of the two young ladies trying in vain to cope, although they were not the most energetic I have come across.
Dinner and breakfast were both good and overall the prices reasonable, but the experience did not live up to the promise of that grand facade.

This was probably a great hotel 50 years ago and still retains its opulence in the reception area and orangerie restaurant. The bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious but the decor is out of keeping with the building, very modern, with the lowest bed and most uncomfortable chairs we have ever come across in a hotel anywhere. The rooms are not soundproof so you can hear every movement next door and upstairs. The service in the bar was non-existent and we waited an hour to be served in the restaurant at dinner - the staff just ignored us until there was no-one else to serve. Having said that, the food when it finally arrived was very good, as was the buffet breakfast the next morning. Unfortunately dogs were allowed in the restaurant which wouldn't happen in the UK. The place was full of older people "taking the cure" in the thermal baths attached to the hotel and it appeared that they were more important than other guests. We had a one night stopover and that was enough.

Room Tip: A room on the top floor would have less noise from neighbours.

We were touring in the area and this location worked
wonderfully into our itinerary. A pleasant town to visit and a good quality hotel restaurant. Architecturally the building is lovely, the
owners have updated and upgraded and chosen a modern and minimalist style for the rooms and hallways, frankly not my
personal favorite but certainly that of many others I'm sure.
Our bathroom was black marble with white a basin and a separate W.C. The restaurant on the other hand was furnished in a more formal fashion with period styling .
Our welcome was OK the receptionist spoke some English between her limited English and my limited French we managed to change our room and get directions to the parking close by the hotel. We were handed a review request form it was 4 pages long! we did not complete it!. Hopefully this report will be as
helpful. Our rate of 88 euros was without breakfast but with parking. A full program of spa treatments are available
