Visited the castle because we like fishing in the area. The hotel is ideally situated for this. It so nice to stay in a hotel which is not part of a plastic chain. The food was great and the staff were so friendly. I would recommend it to anyone. It nice to see all the old photos in the bar.

We stayed at the Castle for a long weekend and were overwhelmed by the Décor of the place and the warm welcoming, friendly staff. The food was exceptional offering many alternatives for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Located in the heart of a quint town and 30mins from the coast we had plenty to do. We have already booked another weekend back at the Castle as it didn’t disappoint and would highly recommend!!!

The whole place was grimy and in need of redecoration - the sink was cracked and chipped, stale water which is what you were supposed to use for tea/coffee YUCK not drinkable - en suite was too small to use - damp patches on the ceiling such a shame staff were friendly and helpful but grossly overpriced for such a tatty place - we would not stay here again.

Ridiculuosly over priced considering you can stay out the newly renovates Crown Hotel just down the road for less per night. The rooms are of a much lower standard of Premier Inns for example, not even on par with travel lodge. Service okay but owners seem very 'cliquey' and also seem to suffer delusions of grandeur with their overpriced prententious food, not to mention drink prices similar to the West End!! Would recommend a very close by little restaurant called Palmers for excellent food, great ambience and super efficient service with a smile. Also a great wine list, and cheaper! Cheers!

On arrival we were greeted by a charming Gentleman by the name of Ben very courteous who booked us in and showed us to our room which was no 6. The room was traditional if somewhat worn with paint coming off the toilet wall and a grubby carpet but for one night we could live with that.
We decided to eat in so went down to the bar which was great very friendly local’s and again Ben was a good host, the Guinness was good, not the best I have had but ok, my wife enjoyed her Stella.
The Bar has pictures and jokes printed on all the walls and the ceiling which was fun to read. We had informed the Hotel we will be eating in so asked for the menu were we given both the Bar snacks and the restaurant menu and decided on my part for the Roast Beef and my Wife the Steak.
Sadly the meal was poor my Beef was of the processed kind you buy in a cash and carry it was cut so thin and was tasteless the roast potatoes were deep fried and burnt. The veg was good however a very small portion. My wife’s Steak was burnt even though she requested Medium to well and the plate was so over filled with chips peas mushroom rings my wife was turned off before she had even started, too much on one plate. The steak again tasteless.
The afters were again not homemade but cash and carry fare and jazzed up with squirty cream and the red wine was so cold we took it back to our room. Now I know the comment is why customers don’t inform the owners of any problems so it can be put right. Why should we! in service things should be right and when you pay £55 for a meal which in my experience was in the 2 for £20 mark you expect quality. In this case just wasn’t there.
Back to the Room my single bed you could feel the springs of the mattress and all night there was a droning sound coming from outside, plus at just after 1am persons leaving the bar were shouting in the car park so not a good night’s sleep. Breakfast was ok usual fare. So a nice place interesting building which needs a little smarting up however the food was a big let down.

I stayed here last month for a week on a business trip.

Pros:

Clean rooms

Friendly staff at breakfast and reception

Cons:

Noisy all night long, the walls are paper thin in connecting rooms and I had a really loud snorer in the room next door.

The showers were really poor, just a trickle really.

The bed was really creaky every time you turned over in the night.

Multiple power cuts during my stay.

Overall - ok for a night or two and ok if you are a deep sleeper.

Room Tip: Do not accept a connecting room if possible
