“Incredible B&B-feel estancia to stay at!”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

This was the highlight accommodation in Patagonia. I was on a week-long horseback riding trip -- tough country and sometimes windy or rainy days -- and the fireplace in the room was most welcome for sore muscles and tired people. The grounds were extensive -- it's much larger than a B&B but had the same kind of feel to it, with very comfortable and soft beds and beautiful rooms. The views from the ranch were incredible. The food was tasy. We were also given a tour of the ranch, including its giant sheep sheering facility. It was a fun place to be and I am sorry we were there for only one night. I'd highly recommend this as your base for exploration. It is on the more expensive end -- but you get what you pay for -- and if you've come all this way, you may as well splurge!

A true Patagonia experience in this honest estancia. Friendly owners and staff can turn your stay a deep immersion in the Patagonian spirit. One hour away from the park, cerro guido is a superp alternative to paine's costly offers. Highly advisable!

Cerro Guido was the highpoint of our Patagonia trip. We stayed in the former owner's house which was 30 minutes by car from the main part of the ranch. This house, in the Las Chinas valley, was a hidden jewel. We experienced the vast beauty of Torres del Paine without the crowds, going on hikes on unmarked trails except for a stake placed strategically every 500 meters. Coming back to the house and stoking the wood fires was a particularly nice touch. The staff of Cerro Guido were all extremely friendly and genuine. We enjoyed the comforts of luxury without pretentiousness.

Room Tip: If you are a group of 5 and over --or even 3 or 4, stay at the house in the Las Chinas valley. It i...

Stayed here for 4 nights. Very windy for some of the time and unable to get into the park due to a fire. Luckily this hotel is outside the park as those in the park had to be evacuated.Scenery around is stunning and plenty of good walks near the hotel. It is a small comfortable hotel ( especially comfortable beds) and the staff are friendly and helpful. Food is very good including the packed lunches as is the wine.Lots of horses( well behaved) available.
Wonderful views of the stars as there is nothing nearby ( and electricity is off during the night). No mobile reception but there is WI FI. If you don´t want to be outside in bad weather bring a good book! Would recommend.

We did our research before visiting Torres del Paine and were not happy with the options: crazy expensive hotels in the park, overpriced guest houses outside the park, or overcrowded refugios where you get your camera stolen. We stumbled upon Cerro Guido and were glad we stayed here as it not only is a much better option than the alternatives, but it is also a totally unique experience. The estancia is nestled atop a hill providing incredible views of TDP, the valley, and the mountains in Argentina. It’s still a working estancia with horses and cattle and the buildings and grounds ache with history. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the restaurant offers excellent food and wine with unsurpassed views of the landscape.

Our reason for giving 4 stars instead of 5 are two-fold: a pretty steep price point and customer service that could have been more attentive. On the former, while this was an incredible experience it was pricey. We paid US$320 for a deluxe room and felt that this was probably ~$75 too high given the value. There are cheaper rooms, but we were told they weren’t available… but when we arrived the property was nearly empty.

The customer service was OK, but not what one would expect for US$320 per night. No one ever checked to see whether we were happy or needed anything. When we were trying to check out, we stood and waited while the manager occupied the only computer. She didn’t even acknowledge us and we had to ask her we could check out.

Given the alternatives and the gorgeous location, I would still certainly recommend this place.

I have been more than once at Estancia Cerro Guido, and the more I discover the place the more I want to come back. It is true that they are not in the park, but on the other hand, you can admire breathtaking views of the towers, as well as the mysterious Sierra Baguales, a hidden corner hardly visited by any tourist in Patagonia.
Cerro Guido offers not only astonishing views of El Paine Massive, but also offers off-the-beaten track routes perfect if you want to go hiking, horse-back riding or biking. Valle de Las Chinas, Vega Nash, Las Flores, Los Leones and a myriad of other places are available, off the over-loaded traffic of tourists that arrive daily to the park close by. Besides, Cerro Guido has a rich history (is an active Estancia of more than 100 years old) and it also has incredible pre-Columbian settlements that are just starting to be studied. Not to mention fossils, just starting to be founded.
The hotel is luxurious and cozy at the same time: Paola, Pablo and Ana María, your hosts, will do every possible thing to make your stay truly wonderful, and will try to solve any problem that may present (as selling me gasoline, since it is not said in the maps that the nearest gas station is not working any longer!).
The food is just wonderful: well-prepared and well-served. They grow their own vegetables and you eat essentially what is available on their garden. This is just the spirit of Patagonia, where you adapt to the resources you have at hand.
I would strongly recommend Estancia Cerro Guido to begin a stay in Patagonia. From there you can easily visit the park or just move to one the several hotels available there. The contrast between the tranquility of the Estacia, compared to the fuss of the park, will make you appreciate much deeper the real and immense landscapes and spirit of Patagonia, that is far more than Torres del Paine.

As we knew we will probably never go back to this area, due to its great distance away, this was our cool treat and we did not regret it. Its an effort to get here but staying on this huge ranch, think rhode island, was nothing short of perfect. From ALL the staff, you know who you are, to the food, the location, and isolated beauty with views of the Paine Massif that were breathtaking. Trust me you need to stay there. Now if this isolation and having to make an effort to get there is not your thing, you will be rewarded if you go!

We were housed in the past owners colonial building, old, rustic, clean, stately and romantic and we chose a smaller room with a better view as we were the only ones there. Oh yeah, us and the 15 or so staff, 200 horses, countless guacanos, 2000 cattle, 60 dogs and just 50,000 sheep. We did get a tour to see all the areas of the farm and the winds were a kicking, almost blew us over! Its wide open here with mountains and land as far as you can see. If it was easy, i'd go back manana!

The meals, oh those meals, brilliant setting, two all glass walls with Torres stunning views, fireplace, owners wines, and 4 course gourmet meals and a delicious breakfast! They even called the staff in one night as we hadn't planned to eat there and then came back early. Could not have been nicer or more accommodating.

Each day we drove into the park and new after a long day of sightseeing, hiking, photography etc. we were happy to be back at the ranch :)

Do i need to say more? Just go...

Room Tip: As the only ones there we picked our room, lovely!
