“View of Lago Grey”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

This is a nice hotel on Lago Grey. The rooms were clean and the staff was helpful. We only spent 1 night at this location as we move on in Torres del Paine. The accommodation was part of a hiking trip booked through NatGeo. My guess is that it is a good value for the area.

<i did not stay at the hotel but today we were a group kayaking on <lago Grey to see the glaciers. The views and setting was magnificent. But part way into the first half of the trip the winds came up and we found ourselfves turned over in 5 c. 39 d. water. <i was in the middle of the lake and it took 10 minutes for a rescue and to get me to shore. The first thing <i said as i stood freezing and shaking was i wanted a double scotch. with lots of effort we made it back across the lake and to the base of the hotel. Wet and cold plus our guide and 3 others we climbed to the hotel bar and dining area for a drink. we were wet and refused the offer to sit in the bar... so outside in the sun we sat, me with a double scotch... all was fine till the 3 month new Venezuelen manager came out and said we had to move away from the dining-bar lodge. We said but we are paying customers... he said in Spanish...i know the likes of you... his voice was derogatory and condescending... he made us move to the public benches in the shade... the few other guests were interested in what happened to us, this Venezuelan manager had not one interest in the human side, nor that we were paying for drinks... he was rude, he also did not know we were a lawyer and college professor from the U-.S, nor the 2 Belgium journalists. Also one journalist was a travel writer, and will be writing on the terrible insult from this Venezuelan manager... FYI, the Chilean staff were concerned about our welfare...

Room Tip: If I owned this hotel <i would get rid of the manager tomorrow, and find a people friendly and we...

The hotel its very nice. The rooms are small and simple. It it's clean. The views from the bar and restaurant are to die for. The mountains, lake, and icebergs are so close you can touch them. Greatlocation it'd you are visiting the Torres del Paine park.

We have been at the Hosteria for one night in november after a 5-days W-Hiking.
After 5-days spent in various huts in the park the hotel seemed a luxury!
The view on the lake and the glacier from the common and dining rooms
is breath taking and at the bar you can finally get whatever you like.

The room are of course extremely comfortable (though cold) compared with
the dormitory of the huts but probably not the price worth (if one does not consider
that this hotel is in the middle of the National Park).
The water pressure of the shower is ridiculously small and you need a lot of
patience to get all the soap washed away.
Breakfast buffet is delicious. Wifi works only nearby the reception.

I don't know if weighting the price with what you get at the end this place is to be rated as excellent of simply good. In my opinion it depends on what you've done before.

This hotel his right next to the Grey Glacier hiking trail and right in front of the lake. The food we had for supper and breakfast was very good and service at restaurant was perfect. View from the bar and the room was terrific. The staff was very nice
But, our room was very dirty, hairs and dust everywhere, carpet was filty plus some dead flies and bees all over the room, also It took 40 minutes to check in and got our room only at 3:30 pm, check out took about 20 min. Poor value for the money they are charging. Overall, it's ok for one night if you don't want to travel back after grey glacier trekking, but wouldn't stay there longer then this

For being in the middle of nowhere this was a decent hotel. The first room we were given had a hot water issue so we were moved to another room. The second room had three twin beds and had space for our two large suitcases. The rooms were rustic but comfortable. The bathrooms served their purpose but were a bit short on space. Because we with a tour group we had help with our luggage and we felt the service was fairly responsive to our needs. The hotel reception and dining areas were very nice. The bar area had some sitting areas and tables to gather in or simply read a book. Beautiful views of the mountains and lake. We ate dinner two nights at the main restaurant and the food was very good both nights. The buffet breakfast was a little bit above average. Again, the views from the dining area was spectacular. The service was very good. This wasn't an upscale hotel but it was very comparable to lodges you might find in American National Parks.

We were in the hotel in September, the cold season. The heating was not working well. No hot water. Staff did not dealt with it until the morning. In the morning they moved us to another room. Excellent room with lake view. No extra cost. We suffered one night, the second night we were almost in heaven. Great room with stunning views. the hotel is at the far end of the Torres del paine. Last nineteen kilometers are really bad, the car's tire was completely destroyed. I think it is better to take Hotel in the center of torres del paine . The hotel is the Departure point for the cruise to Glacier Grey, an amazing experience and very recommended

Room Tip: the more expensiv rooms with lake view r the best
