“Good hotel”
Reviewed November 17, 2011

Friendly staff, clean room (we booked a superior room and got the room from the picture with the beautiful view of the glacier) and of course beautiful surroundings. The food is very good, but you don´t have much to choose from. The menu is fixed with a choice of meat or fish for the main course, but that´s it. It would be a plus if there was just a little more to choose from.

We stayed here the last two days in August. The Hotel was very nice. We had a very large room with a great view of the Lake and Glacier. It was in the 700 block. The room was a bit cold, which we prefer anyways. Very clean, good beds, nice decorations and fittings, good bathroom.

The dining room has an amazing view of the lake and glacier. The breakfast was very good. Dinner was very good, you have a choice of two main courses which were excellant. We were lucky because the staff were sampling wine for their wine cellar for the summer season, so they gave free wine out to the guests, first night white, the second night red.

The meals are expensive but considering you have no choice as there are no other places to eat, it was quite good. I don't understand why they don't just include dinner with the cost of the room.

If you are not interested in nature and hiking, this is not the place to go as you will be bored. There are no TV's in the rooms and essentially nothing for entertainment at the hotel. There are miles of nice hiking right out side the hotel, and lots of birds on the grounds, and amazing views.

The boat on the lake did not run because it was winter and there were very few guests.
Winter is nice because there are few tourists, and no wind. But none of the tours are available.

This hotel was the only option to remain in the park. Very cozy, well furnished, warm and clean. I do not agree with the comment of the run down rooms. Ours was room 601. Extremely comfortable for a couple. Two queen size beds and a big sized room, and at a standard price. It could end up being very expensive if you have lunch, dinner or drinks there. No other option nearby to eat. I suggest you take your own appetizers, or sandwiches and eat in the room. There´s a small table and 2 comfortable chairs. Breakfast was Ok. No fresh fruit, only apples mixed with canned fruits. The rest was normal. You get a pisco sour on the first day, you have access to one computer in the lounge, and a nice view to the glacier from the same area. From the hotel you can go to a close area to walk to a view point to observe the glacier . For us it was a great option to stay in low season at an affordable price a spend a 2 day visit in a jeep that we rented. Three days in the park would have been even better! Just paradise! Lucky us that weather was fantastic on the first day ( clouds, sun, some wind), and Ok on the second ( few clouds and mild rain).

Room Tip: A room for a couple with 2 queen size bedrooms! Room 601 was great for being a standard room. I love...

Busy little hotel with lots of tour groups. The restarant looks out towards the glacier - the food is not quite to the same standard but given where it is the hotel is fine. Rooms are in cabins apart from the main building and are perfectly functional.

First the positives:
Fabulous location. Bar area over looks Lago Grey and glacier.

The negatives:
The older rooms are really run down and worn. Our hair dryer did not work...the shower was falling apart.

Breakfast was fine - nothing special. Dining room was fine. Internet was slow. Our experience was clouded by bad weather and we were unable to be out hiking, but the rooms really need an update and some general repair.

Reviewed March 29, 2011

I'm writing because of the bad experience me and a friend had at the Hostería Lago Grey when buying the tickets to the Lago Grey cruise to the Glaciar. On the 4th march we bought two tickets on the value of $40.000 (cuarenta mil pesos) to see the glaciar and then stay at the Refugio Grey, wich is inside the Park on a camping site. Having bought the tickets at the Hostería, we took the boat at 15h, if I'm not mistaken. Please notice that we bought two tickets, each one on the value of $40.000, to see the Glaciar and then stay at the camping, as it has been said.
After an hour or so, when the boat was arriving at the Glaciar, the guide, S., came to us to tell us that we were arriving at the camping and so we would have to go down. That was before the Glaciar, which ment we would have to go down to the camping without seeing the Glaciar. But when we bought the tickets no one explained to us that there were two different kinds of tickets (one to the camping - $32.000 - and another one to see the Glaciar - $40.000), and as we said we wanted to go down at the camping, but, of course, after seeing the Glaciar, we paid for it and we were expecting exactly this. Due to a lack of comunication among the Hostería staff we had a very unpleasant day. We decided to stay on the boat to see the Glaciar, after all, that was what we had payed for and wanted to do, and then go back to the Hostería to speak with the manager on charge.
After the full tour we went back to the Hostería and the recepcionist directed us to the manager P. S. After having explained the same thing I'm now writing a dozen times, and still insisting that what had happened was their fault when it was a problem of comunication among their own staff, we were furious. He appeared to be talking not with two persons that had bought a service from the hotel where he worked, and so, represented, but with persons that were wrong. I insist that what happened was due to their own staff bad comunication that didn't explained to us the route the boat would take, that couldn't talk among themselves to say that we had bought the tickets to see the Glaciar end then leave at the camping, that couldn't care less to solve the problem. Mr. S. first wanted to charge us more to take another trip with the boat that would leave us at the right place - when they should already had left us at the camping on that same day after seeing the Glaciar -, asked us questions that had nothing to do with the hole situation, insulted us and, finaly, threatened us first saying that he would call the CONAF to throw us out of the Hostería, and afterwards saying that if we wouldn't stop calling atention he himself would throw us out of the Hostería and out of the park.
We managed to make the trip by boat on the next day without paying again, for the hole problem ocurred for a problem with the staff, after camping on an area nearby.
This is not the way staff, and mostly, a manager, should treat their costumers, especcialy when the costumers are right and are submited to this kind of stressfull situation. I still can't understand how a manager can use that kind of manners, a complete lack of education and respect with costumers, to solve problems caused by their own personal staff.
Me and my friend are very sorry for the type of service the Hostería offers to their clients, and fully injured by the treatment we had had to experience on their account. Describing what happened dosen't even gets close to the extremely stressfull and humiliating situation we were exposed to.
I insist also, that after having sent this email twice, once in english, and another time in spanish, still no one from the Hostería bothered to give us any explanation, apologize or whatsoever.

LagoGrey, Gerente at Lago Grey Hosteria and Navegacion, responded to this review, July 4, 2011
Dear passengers,

My name is Daniel Seron, Manager of Hotel Lago Grey. First of all thank you for your visit and preference for our services. On the other hand, I deeply regret not having been answered before, but recently I became aware of this situation and it took a time to gather all the facts of the case.
To clarify this situation, it is necessary to describe the performance of our navigation service. Please note that these services have remained in the way described below from four years ago and the shipping routes are posted on our website, as well as a large number of sites that allude to Torres del Paine.
The services are:
Regular navigation (R / T) = It is a direct navigation from the Grey Glacier Hotel to return to the starting point, no arrests.
One Way navigation from the Hotel (OWH)= It is navigation from the hotel to the Refugio Grey, not Glacier visits.
One Way navigation from Refugio (OWR) =It is navigation from Refugio Grey to the hotel, visiting one face of the glacier.
As I researched, when you bought your navigation tickets you indicated your intention to go to the shelter and see the Grey Glacier, at that moment our guide explained you that the OWH navigation would not visit the glacier, that’s why you preferred to buy the ticket from the regular navigation. As you noted we have not a One Way Hotel OWH navigation with a Glacier visit, because it is just a trekkers shuttle service used to go straight to the Shelter, disembark and continue their journey through the paths to reach the viewpoint of the glacier. In this way the passengers can be approximated better by themselves.
For the background story with which I can conclude that the communication was unclear and led to confusion between the parties, which resulted in an altered debate and conduct, against our tour manager did not respond properly.
What happened in the hotel totally escaped to our Customer service policies and dedication of our staff. The tour manager admitted his act and of course we deeply regret. As a result of your claim we have decided to adopt corrective measures to avoid the recurrence of such undesirable situations.
Please note that our staff and residents of this southern portion of Chile are characterized by their friendliness, respect and kindness.
On behalf of our entire company and staff, I reiterate our sincere apologies. The day the incident occurred I was on the ground, that is why I had no opportunity to intervene adequately in this case.
We remain at your entire disposal and if in the near future you, your family or friends visit us, please do not hesitate to contact us at the e-mails info@turismolagogrey.com and / or reservas@turismolagogrey.com.

Sincerely,
Daniela L. Seron
