We recently completed the 5 Day W trek, staying at Ecocamp. The whole experience was incredible and thus far the highlight of our month in South America.
The organisation is first rate, with all transfers and logistics flowing smoothly and without incident.
The domes themselves are supremely comfortable and well fitted out. We had a suite for two and also a suite with a loft to accomodate the three young adults travelling with us. The beds in both domes were exceptionally comfortable.
The ambience and vibe of the community domes is distinctive, warm and relaxing, with a great bar, lounge area and outside area.
The food throughout was fabulous - a great breakfast offering, wonderful dinners and a range of top rate ingredients to allow the creation of self-made lunches to be consumed on the hike. One of our party is gluten free and there were plenty of options for her, with staff and guides being familiar with what was possible.
Every member of staff we met were highly professional, happy, friendly and willing to assist. Our two guides (Carlos and Jonas) could not have been better - they were very attentive; focussed on ensuring we were safe at all times; set the right pace in the hikes and managed the varying levels of the party very well; explained the landscape and features well; had a good chemistry between them and were great fun to be with - thank you...We recently completed the 5 Day W trek, staying at Ecocamp. Finally, the hikes and the views (yes, those things). We were blessed with good weather so were able to experience it all in perfect conditions. We took many photos but they really do not do justice to the majestic and varied beauty of the glacial valleys, the peaks, the glacial lakes, and glaciers that were dominant throughout the trip.
The whole experience was exceptional and we loved it. It is not a cheap but on balance, given what is included and how well it is done, worth the money.
One bit of advice: be fit and capable if you are going to do this hike. Technically is is only “moderate” level but the duration and extent of change in elevation makes it challenging (& rewarding if you are fit). Poles and good boots are essential.More
