My wife and I had the pleasure of staying here for four nights as autumn approached. We were lucky and the weather was nice every day. From the moment we were picked up in Punta Arenas, through the fabulous walks with Felipe, Basilio and Martin, to the return trip to the Punta Arenas airport the staff was always thinking and acting on our behalf. The food was good, the architecture exquisite and the solace of the stay fantastic.
If you are seeking some great hikes with knowledgable leaders from a fantastic location go to Torres Del Paine and stay at Tierra Patagonia.

We stayed at Tierra Patagonia for 5 days. The hotel, a long semicurve built into the side of a hill and made entirely out of local wood, is designed to blend in with the local landscape and is architecturally striking inside and out. The rooms (only 3 suites available) are simple, but tastefully done, and the view out of each window faces the turquoise waters of Lake Sarmiento and the amazing mountain range behind it. This is an all-inclusive resort: food, drink, and expeditions have no extra charge; in fact I think only the massages in the spa cost extra (I didn't try out the spa).

If you love rugged landscapes, this place is for you. The environment is gorgeous and you can fit in two expeditions a day (hiking, climbing, horseback riding, flora and fauna tours, visiting the nearby glacier). Almost all the guests come with outdoor activities in mind, and hang around in hiking gear waiting for the next trip. The staff is wonderful, warm, and eager to please. Did I mention the views were beautiful?

It's not quite a 5-star experience yet, though, IMHO. When we stayed there we thought there were just a few snags that needed to be ironed out. I'll mention them in the spirit of constructive feedback. First and most important, the restaurant (remember, all your meals are in the common dining room; you can pick one of three menu options each lunch and dinner) was very uneven. Some meals were quite tasty; others were actually bad (an inedible salmon; an over-gristly stew). Second, wifi is restricted to the public areas (lounge, library, dining room, etc), which means you can't get work done in your room. This might have been set up this way to encourage interaction, but it's just a pain. Also, the public areas have music on 24/7 and this can be tiring to listen to--especially if you have to spend a lot of time out there because of the wifi issue! If these three features were changed, the place would really be perfect.

I recommend the horseback riding at a nearby estancia--an unbelievably beautiful 2 hour trip through a magical green forest. And even on walks around the hotel you will see local antelopes, ostriches, and sheep. No penguins though--for that you need to go to Punta Arenas.

Room Tip: 2-8, 22-28 are closest to to the public areas

I had an amazing time at Tierra Patagonia. Not only is the hotel in an amazing location the staff are incredible. The guides brought us to some of the most beautiful places in the world. I recommend going to Sierra Baguales as an excursion during your stay. Thanks Tierra Patagonia!

Tierra Patagonia was the first leg of our honeymoon. The newly opened hotel has spectacular interior and gorgeous view of the lake. The hotel was designed so it doesn't intrude the landscape of Patagonia. So we didn't get a full view of the architecture until we were right in front of the building.

Pros
- Amazing view of the lake from all the rooms and dining rooms
- Great spa with an outdoor jacuzzi. It's fun to sit in the outdoor jacuzzi especially with the wind blowing
- Many hiking choices for all different levels of hikers.
- Very friendly staff and tour guides
- Modern and chic interior design

Cons
- Breakfast starts at 7.30 am, which isn't enough time if you have a 8am hike
- Dinner time can get hectic so the service isn't always great
- The wine selections were mediocre
- No Internet in the room

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay at the Tierra Patagonia. The food was surprisingly good given the fact that it's so remotely located. Besides the food items offered on the menu, guests can put in special requests the night before. My husband was interested to try one of the Chilean specialty - completo. The chef did a great job. I didn't love the local wines at the hotel but do try the 'Calafate sour'. Calafate is a local berries, which is very tart. The locals make amazing Calafate liquor -- I wish I brought some back! Last but not least, the hotel adopted a sheep name 'Raymond'. Apparently he's very spoiled by the staff and can understand the word 'leche'. He's quite dirty from sleeping near the vent but he's really adorable and will respond if you say 'baaa'.

We know that in Latin America children are allowed to stay up late and run free - so be warned. We had noisy children running around during dinner.
If we had one overall comment to make it would be that we didnt stay long enough ( 3 nights) we should have done 4 to get the best from the excursions - which were fab ! Condors, mountains, vicunas ( walking around and on the menu - yummy!) glaciers, waterfalls, good walks. Great guides.
Food is fixed menu and had good variety at all 3 meals> we found plenty of choice in he wine and particularly liked the Pinot Noir and Sauvignan Blanc.
Great rooms all with wondrous views. Horizon Pool was fantastic.

Room Tip: The rooms are on 2 levels along a long corridor with spa at the far end. Its quite a long walk back...

Wow, what to say about this property!
It stays on one of the most beautiful places on earth and the architectural style really shines. Everything is in native wood and the hotel simply blends with nature.
You can view the Torres in full scale from your room, just beside the lake and surrounded by hundreds of animals.
The excursions are great, the meals were excellent and they probably have the best pool ever!
This is the best place to stay in Patagonia and a marvelous experience for everyone.
Heartly recommended!

The facility is an architectural achievement in every detail beginning with its exterior in perfect harmony with the terrain and an interior decorated with numerous wooden surfaces treatments and expressive yet subtle structural elements. The view from the main room is panoramic.
Our room was a two story suite with seating lounge at top level and sleeping and bath on lower level. Stairs down to lower level are cleverly constructed of wood treads, risers and integral hand rail. But tread edges are visually hard to see and dangerous. Room featured a two story window that made viewing the starry night a great treat with planets and stars down to the horizon.
Food was very creative and perfectly presented and prepared. Every meal choice of 2 appetizers-soup or salad,3 entrees-seafood, meat,or pasta and 2 desserts - cake or ice cream/ sherbets(which are outstanding)
Drinks are included with stay from the well stocked top shelf bar.
Excursion experiences were quite varied from short easy hikes to more challenging including long drives and chances to see all portions of the park. Guides are very knowledgeable and friendly.

We missed using the pool spa facility because didn't open to 9AM and we were on excursions then. Looked outstanding and talked to others that skipped an 1/2 day excursion to use and relax.

Room Tip: Stay 4 night minimum. Try Calafate Sour in addition to the usual pisco sour.
