“Great location, very average hotel”

Are, Sweden is a beautiful village and the Tott affords an amazing view over the lake with ski in/ski out access to the mountain. As others have said, the breakfast is really good. The ski rental shop is right on the premises and the town is a five minute walk away (very slippery though!) Also, the beds are comfortable with good mattresses. That said, the rooms are tiny and austere and the service is spotty. Not a photo on the wall, dull white paint throughout, tiny windows, no in-room safe or minibar, no temperature control, extra charge for pool towels, (towels are crunchy not soft), cleaning services totally inconsistent - some days they come and some days they don't, elevator not working our entire stay, phone in the room not working and no bell hops at all. These things didn't ruin our vacation. We had a lovely time. Just don't expect anything close to posh. This is a Holiday Inn on a good day.

The hotel was very good value compared to other hotels in Åre. Our room was really really tiny (double compact), so if you want to have some space, it might be worth booking something bigger. Breakfast was great, and the spa area was really good. A perfect way to relax after a few hours on the slopes!

Room Tip: Don't choose a compact room if you need some space, because there's not much of it at all.

Tott is a good place during the high season. Easy access to the slopes, ski in, ski out concept.
You can stay at Tott without basically leaving the area but if you want to go down to the village, you have a steep walk down and back up again so not exactly your first choice unless you want to workout in the evenings as well and not in the slopes only.
You can of course take a taxi or take the mountain train (free of charge, but finishes at 10 pm).

All the rooms are like small "condos" with possibilities for self catering / cooking but the size is indeed small.

The breakfast is almost unbeatable. No matter what allergies you may have, there is something there for you. The only backdrop is that they do not have a "made to order" kitchen for omelettes and such.

Many rooms come with a spectacular view over the sea and the village.

Highly recommended for those who is not interested in having immediate access to the village or the shops.

If you decide to book, make sure you book a room / apartment with a southern view over the lake.

Room Tip: If you decide to book, make sure you book a room / apartment with a southern view over the lake.

I liked the hotel Tott. We stayed there for a week as part of a group. It's in an ideal location for skiing as its ski in ski out. It's a quick walk into town, 5 - 10 mins, using then footpath and tunnel. Though the path was very slippery when we were there. Good boots were essential and even then it was pretty treacherous! so sometimes then longer walk via the road was the better option. The hotel car park was also an ice rink at points!

The rooms are fine, not that large, but comfy and clean. A bonus was having access to the spa, with sauna and pool, great after a day skiing. Good breakfasts in the morning. Tried the restaurant one evenings which had good food, though service was slow at points. To be fair it was the busy week before new year though.

Overall a very good stay.

I had a hard time deciding how I should review the Tott Hotel Åre. Looking at the price, it is in the high end (at least for Swedish mountain hotels) but looking at other qualities it is at the low end.

Starting with the good stuff, the Spa. The hotel has a good indoor pool and a good gym with nice view over the neighborhood. At the spa you can book a variety of body treatments, although we didn't try any of them. There is a really nice sundeck/porch next to the bar and the restaurant has beautiful views as well. The hotel has a true ski-in/ski-out location. The girl at the check-out counter was very charming and service-minded.

The check-in process on the other hand took quite some time and many of the other staff e.g. in the breakfast restaurant felt "absent", not aware of us customers.

We reserved a "DeLuxe" room which was larger than ordinary rooms and had views towards the village/mountains. The room was divided into a very small bedroom (the queen sized bed could barely be entered from the sides even though we are "thin" persons), a small living room with a 2-person sofa and a 4-person dinner table. Finally there was a kitchenette. All of this was narrow and didn't feel "DeLuxe" at all. Both the bedroom and the living room had small TV sets (like 18" LCD) with poor signal quality. The room felt as it was in desperate need for
maintenance. Lamps didn't work, furniture was staggering, I had to fix the shades myself and the cleaning could have been done better. Before you leave, you are supposed to do the dishes in the kitchenette and you are supposed take care of your recycling garbage.

The breakfast felt as at a low-budget hotel. In other words, quite limited and "cheap".
There are very few parking spaces so if you arrive late, prepare for a long walk.

When choosing a room, don't take a room at the reception level facing the road. If you have avalanche knowledge, you get the point...

Would I stay here again? Yes, if the price was less than half of what it is today. If so I would compare it to other medium priced hotels and as such, it isn't bad. I do want what I pay for, not less as I got here.

This is a perfect hotel both with or without kids. We arrived on a saturday morning, parked outside the hotel and were in the slopes after 10 minutes.
The afterski at Fjellgården nearby is tremendous and downtown Åre is just a walk or a short taxi trip away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view to the lake.
