Flemington Hotel
Ranked #4 of 16 Hotels in Taiping

We arrived in Taiping just before the Chinese New year celebration, so the hotel was decorated with the typical celebratory decorations, the red dragons and red lanterns. It is situated just at the foothill of the lush Maxwell Hill and faces the lake gardens. It is a magnificent setting. The lush garden setting with the lakes and towering hill just at its door step. The road leading to the hotel is lines by ancient old raintrees, trees that have seen generations of Taiping kids going to school and coming to the playgrounds at the Lake Gardens and them coming back paying homage to the old favorite spot in Taiping. This Lake Garden is beautiful and has not changed much, well it has and it has not. The urban dwelling is ever encroaching and development is ever wanting to be nearer... alas, there are more buildings including this hotel now than it has ever been.

Nonetheless, Taiping is a sleepy little gem - it has a museum, a huge prison- which makes an interesting sight - apparently they still hang people there- hmm state murder as punishment is repulsive to me, and interestingly enough quite close to this hotel.

I regress! Coming back to the hotel, our booking was very well handled by the reception staff and checking in was a bliss. We booked for three rooms and got three facing the Gardens. Clean, big, sparsely furnished, but magificent view! it has a lovely pool on the roof top.

The bathroom and hot water are OK, nothing to write home about but all is clean and in order. the hotel serves good breakfast and good food for snacks and dinner. Parking is ample and staff is well-trained and as in many small towns in Malaysia, the staff is polite and not over friendly.

We walked around the gardens, we enjoyed the Coronation Pool nearby, we love the lakes. I recommend this place if you ever get to this pensioners paradise town, this is the place to be!

Room Tip: Ask for the ones facing the Gardens. It is a must, otherwise forget it. Simply not worth your time!!

Stayed there one night during Chinese New Year with my family. I paid I think around RM228 for Premier room and it comes with breakfast for 2. Requested for an additional bed at RM50. They did not charge my 2 kids for breakfast the next day.
Location wise, this hotel is located at the other end of Taiping Lake Gardens and for the price you pay during Chinese New Year, I would say it is value for money.
Breaskfast was normal nothing great but serves its purpose of filling up your tummy.
There is a skybar at the rooftop which is a good place for chilling and enjoying the night scence.
There is a chinese restaurant in the hotel but did not have the chance to try but it was suppose to be good as it was fully booked during the Chinese New Year Period

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the Taiping Lake Gardens

Must be very hype for the very first time to stay at flemington with winner of traveler's choice 2012 award, wondering how does other travelers rated it based on what aspect?

I called up to make reservation before arrival requesting 2 rooms with extra beds.
upon arrival at 2.30pm, reservation officer at front desk told me to wait till 3pm sharp before able to issue me key cards to our room as housekeeping still cleaning the room.
(so it gives me an understanding that either the staff like to do last minute cleaning job or the hotel must insist wait till 3pm before able to check in? can't you just make your guest happy)

(A) ROOMS

entering our rooms, one room is without extra bed thus gotta wait for them to deliver the bed.

from guest floor to our rooms, the floor they using carpet floor tiles which is so thin and unstylish.

even our view from window is facing very old houses. what a an eyesore.

rooms are just plain okay and small, nothing fancy, wall with TV, hair dryer, safe box, NO BAR FRIDGE, free wifi, ethernet LAN cable point, water kettle.

DO NOT USE THEIR HAIR DRYER, IT WILL EASILY TRAP AND STUCK YOUR HAIR.
it happen twice to my family members.

(B) CAR PARKS

Car park located at basement is a really bad in terms of design, the entrance is too narrow and if you are driving a big car like MPV, your chances of getting scratch is 98%.

getting out from the car park exit is the same problem as you are entering, difficult to enter and exit. please park outside for large vehicle.

(C) ELEVATORS

only 2 elevators serving the entire building. there is no elevator access from car park to lobby, means you gotta carry your baggages through stairs to lobby area.

i even see delivery guys sending Ice bags using the same guest elevators to roof top or 1st floor restaurant. this is first time i see such a hotel allows loading/unloading, delivery of goods using same elevators.

(D) SWIMMING POOLS @ ROOF TOP LEVEL

when entering the roof top floor, i do see a sign on the glass panel stated there is charges for
adults and kids for using the pool. (i assume it's for outsiders who wish to use their facilities, with saying that, any tom, dick and harry from outside can use it and degrading the quality of the hotel images)

no towels given or they told us it's finish upon requesting one. so gotta use own bathroom towels.

there are some old broken chairs lying at one corner and whole are is lack of shades.
wading pool and their infinity pool are average.

(E) RESTAURANT FOOD & BREAKFAST

we tried to have our late lunch and was told we gotta wait at least 1 HOUR??!! for food to be served due to many customers ordering. so is the kitchen only with 1 chef ?

even the restaurant manager unable to give me a satisfied answer when question him.

we left for nearby food court outside and return for late dinner. this time the food serving will be slightly better than in the noon, but to my surprise only selected food are available.

even their promotion menu runs at 1st jan to 28th feb except public holiday (11-12th feb)
are not available when the date was 13th feb, like what the waiter told us.

breakfast buffet are typical local food which easily available at shops around. replenish of food are slow or never happen at all. i don't get to enjoy anything.

my opinions of people rate this hotel is because the sake of this hotel with trendy swimming pool and cheap food in Taiping town, not the overall outlook of inside and outsdide,

Room Tip: Don't park your car inside the basement. Do not use the hair dryer, it's dangerous.

Really good rooms. New and clean. Our room did not face the beautiful Taiping Gardens directly but we had the serene misty hills to feast on. Reservations was professionally handled, check in was prompt and room service was fast. Very good value for money..

Booked a superior room using Booking.com at a published rate of RM 119, which is the rate not including the 6% government tax. The rate inclusive will be RM 138. Receptionist was very professional and check in was smooth. Parking security was provided so don't have to worry about your car. But negotiating the entrance to the basement car park can be a challenge, the turning was quite narrow and sharp. The superior rooms are the ones not facing the Lake Gardens, but nevertheless the room is of excellent quality, was complete with basic toiletatries and coffee maker. It is adequate for a good night rest after a long day work.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of Malaysian and Western dishes to choose from.

At Skybar the choices of alcoholic beverage is rather limited, with Tiger, Calsberg, Asahi and Hoegarden in the menu, but nevertheless the ambiance was very relaxing and the waiter was friendly. Great to have a chilled beer while watching the sunset over the Lake and nearby hills.

The location: Within the Taiping Lake Gardens, 10 minutes to Taping Zoo, 5 minutes drive to Taiping town and 10 minutes to Bukit Larut( Maxwell Hill). The Lake Garden and Maxwell Hill view from Skybar/ Swimming Pool is breathtaking. Overall the most breathtaking hotel in Taiping, even when didn't get the rooms facing the lake.

Good coice of hotel as this hotel located within famous Taiping Lake Garden. This hotel having the infinity swimming pool on the roof top. The room was just the right size with flat screen TV.

Further improvement needed to provide ample parking lots for guest as the basement parking inssufficient if there are function happening in thier banquet hall. The rest.... Thumb up.

I was there for one night for a business trip. We have chosen the premier room as the price is still within our limit, hence we had the luxury of the lake view that would not have been available otherwise.

Breakfast was so-so.

Room Tip: Make to ask for the room with lake view - it's worth the extra ringgit you have to pay.
