“Very interesting”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Guide very knowledgeable. If you can't understand French a written guide in English is available (tours in English can e organized). Guide is very good and really reflects what the guide says.
Very nice castle, typical of what existed in the XVIIth century.
Gardens a la francaise worth a visit.
A place to discover

“Furnished chateau with beautiful gardens”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

For those who want a real glimpse of life 17th century French life, this chateau provides it. The furnished apartments are fascinating - I loved the salon of "curiosities." The old kitchen still has a working weighted rotisserie in the chimney. If you visit in the late spring and early summer, you will see the medieval style vegetable garden in its full splendor. There is a maze for children of all ages and other interesting things in the formal gardens.

“Truly wonderful chateau and gardens”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

The chateau was a great experience, and the tour guide made it very interesting with many anecdotes. The gardens are truly stunning and have been greatly upgraded in recent years. We will go there again and again.

“Wonderfully restored Chateua”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

The Chateau is absolutely wonderful. The gardens and surrounding areas are well manicured. The tour of the Chateau was given in French, being English we were given reading material translated into English. This worked out well. Even though we could only pick up a few of the French words, we both thought the tour guide was exceptional since he pointed out the highlights and we read that to which he was referring. The rooms are well decorated in the style of the period. The staircase to the upper levels is an amazing piece of architecture.

“Beautiful Burgundian garden”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We visited Chateau de Cormatin last week during our holiday in Burgundy and would thoroughly recommend visiting the beautiful gardens (we didn't tour the chateau interior so can't comment on that aspect).
For anyone who is interested in good gardens Cormatin is well worth a visit if you are in Burgundy. I am a garden designer by profession and was impressed by the overall design, atmosphere and layout of the gardens around the moated Chateau into various areas; including formal parterre, potager, maze and parkland. They have a cafe/tea salon open in the summer months which was closed for the season when we visited but you can take a picnic into the grounds and enjoy it whilst sitting on one of the deckchairs beside the formal canal, an idyllic location on a sunny day.
Remarkably, the Chateau de Cormatin and it's gardens were virtually derelict until fairly recently.
We also made a short visit to the Chateau de Flecheres near Lyon on our way to the airport. I believe this chateau has the same owner as Cormatin and has very impressive interiors although we only had time to explore the grounds. Although the gardens are not as impressive as Cormatin the setting is also atmospheric (the Chateau exterior is magnificent) and a garden admission ticket was only 1 euro so it's certainly worth a stopover if you are in the Lyon area.
