Just returned from a week (Oct 11-18) and this was a pleasant surprise. The resort was half closed; it is slow season, and we stayed in building 38. Room was clean, and everything worked. This building is close to main building and pool area. Being four years old the resort and surviving Irma it is showing a bit of wear, but the grounds were lush and well maintained. There are only two al a carte's open right now, and the buffet had the better food IMO. Pizza, pasta, donunt, and a sushi station were hits!! You will not go hungry. The 24 hr snack bar had eggs and toast from 7 til 10 then a light menu til 4 with burgers chicken strips, and some sandwiches. After 4 it was just sandwiches. Animation kinda lacked during day, but there was stuff to do. Free rides on the small Cats and peddle boats. At night do not miss the two guys playing guitar and violin, they were amazing!! The shows put on a night are they typical Cuban fair; dancing and a bit of audience participation.

Walk the beach left to the little market with a nice little bowling alley, or right to the nature reserve and unspoiled beaches. The hotel is the last one on the strip so last to be dropped off and first to be picked up.

No disco on site!! Bus from lobbey takes you at around 1130 and returns at 230. Cost is 4 CUC return 3 CUC to get in and 3 CUC for drinks!! Not really worth it IMO.

Beach party (Monday) with foam is either a love or hate.

So ankle bits ( bring spray if that bothers you) no major lizards or spiders as mentioned by others

Go last minute and enjoy

The staff we interacted with at the resort were lovely, friendly and so accommodating. The beach was beautiful, well kept and not too crowded which was so nice. Easy to find a good spot, lots of loungers available and lots of areas to seek the shade when it gets too hot.

The room was another story. When we arrived our room wasn't ready, we were advised they were cleaning it and to come back. No problem. We grab a drink and get to booking a la carte and changing over some money. Three hours later our room is ready so we go in. It has not been cleaned. Moldy shower, moldy toilet, room smells musty like an old basement. Whatever, we are on vacation, it's better than being home.

Our first night there we discovered cockroaches in the bathroom. When we brought this up to our Sunwing rep, his response was "it's a tropical place, there are bugs". Okay, I get it. We aren't back home in Canada, but I have stayed other tropical places and not had the same issue. Rep tells us he will talk to the front desk and have our room deep cleaned. A deep clean never happened. I'm confident the floor was never even swept as evidenced by the dirt and dead bugs near the side of the bed I slept on. Having a more close look around the room, two or three spots of mold starting on the walls, what looked like food or pop stains on the wall behind the bed, stained bedsheets and pillow cases. The lovely glass window in the shower has never been cleaned, and some soap we got on it the first day never moved despite our room getting a daily clean and our special "deep clean". We had to chase down a cleaning staff member to get shampoo and toilet paper, and had to call the front desk for toilet paper on one occasion. Two hours later, toilet paper shows up.

On our last day there, my husband was putting on his shoes to leave, felt something in the toe and reached in to find a huge cockroach. My skin is still crawling.

I had to double wash all of the clothes we took with us in hot water to get the musty smell out. I had to wash my hair twice to get the same musty smell out from sleeping in the room. I am still fearful we had a stowaway and now am monitoring my home for signs of roach infestation, it was that bad.

Let's start by saying , I've been to Cuba a lot , 4 times to this resort, I can honestly say this place is the best , food is awesome for Cuba, resort is modern and clean , well kept , the staff , if you take the trouble to get to know them are really very nice , just try saying hola once in a while , it gets you a long way , I would highly recommend this place above anywhere else in Cuba

A couples vacation of 6, we travel 3 times s year and it’s usually Cuba ... this trip was the most disappointing ever in 26 years !!
Hotel check in was good staff friendly ... but when we got to the pool we were dumbfounded ... dirty moulding grout in pool. patio puddled with who knows what growing in it ... not swept , cups everywhere , water was yellow in colour . All I can say was nasty !!! Never have I ever seen this in Cuba in 26 years
Do not take your shoes off .. got a drink at the bar and asked for Compari on Ice... we were told it was for the VIP clients only . But we were served compari at every other bar .
We are beach lovers and based on trip advisor reviews, comments and pictures ... we couldn’t wait to settle in .
OMG!!! What beach ????? Rocks broken chairs, maybe 20 feet of beach WTF I just wanted to cry. Maybe there’s another beach ?
Morning of day 2 .... decided to check out the other part of the resort ... and again ... soooo bad... trust me the pics people post are not what is there ... we were told by staff that the best part of the beach was not operating to the public

We decided as s group we could not stay here and we met with Sunwing Rep Micheal ASAP . We stated our case respectfully politely and he was ready to help us move to another resort ASAP.
Met with the Female Manager from Spain and she was available to help make us happy anyway she could .
Within the hour we where packed checked out and on our way to the Royalton... PARADISE!!!!!!! 7 minutes private bus ride Sunwing Rep Michael made for us.
We were very saddened with hotel pics of the resort which are in fact not a true representation of what actually is there.
We as a group have spent thousands of dollars in Cayo Coco Santa Maria and Veradero over the years and this experience takes the cake as the worst ever .
I wish I included pics of my own but was too disgusted to do so.
This is no reflection of the staff which were all very kind and lovely .
This vacation. Went from a good price getaway to a lot more money than wanting to spend ....
I hope going fwd that Sunwing re adjusts its star rating of this resort ... we felt very deceived on this trip ... sadly ....

We had a great time at this resort. The resort is clean and the staff is friendly and extremely helpful. The alacart restaurant have amazing food. We had no problems with our room and we found even the management staff was really friendly and helpful..

Room Tip: bw 38 pool view you will have ocean view as well
