Upon arrival we were greeted with a wonderful smile from the staff and our room keys along with a drink. We had room 1822 with a spectacular view of the ocean and the small beach, doesn't get any better than at sunset when you can sit on your deck have a glass of champagne and watch the sunset. The room was beautiful and clean with all the nice little amenities that we always have to pack. Even a bathrobe and slippers, nice touch. Your "butler" is more of a helper so don't go there if all you want is to have someone wait on you, he can book your reservations, order your dinner, take care of your luggage etc, but don't take advantage of them, they work to hard! There is no buffet on the property but you won't go hungry by any means and you can go to the other 2 Melia's to eat at the buffet or have your butler make you a reservation at the restaurants. It was nice to get dressed up and go to the other hotels, like having date night all the time. There is a free shuttle that runs between the properties, although you can't rent a scooter there or get a taxi, so you get on the bus and order those at the other Melia's. The resort is very small and quaint, we loved it. Staff is wonderful! All of them, not just one person stood out here, they all did. Please make sure you take some gifts for them as they are all grateful for anything you bring. Razors/Band-Aids/first aid kits/aspirin/any type of clothing and shoes/toothpaste is a very welcome gift also. Yes it doesn't take much to spoil those people, remember they may look like us dressed in their uniforms, but off the property you will see a completely different looking staff. So treat them with respect, they work hard and deserve a break, for a few dollars we can make a huge difference in someone's life! Give a little gift to all! Gloves for the gardener, oven mitts for the cooks, soft shoes for the cleaners, perfume from the dollar store is even a big hit there, anything....use your imagination. If you were living in a third world country what would you want? Pack some clothes you don't want and leave them there when you go home. Have a great time! PS The piano bar is wonderful as is the spa!

Room Tip: We had an upgrade to ocean view and wouldn't have it changed it for the world! We are ocean peo...

THE GOOD:
We traveled to the Melia Buenavista from October 3-10 and really had a great time, resort beautiful and clean, staff couldn't do enough to help make sure you were taken care of. Always friendly, especially the ladies at the breakfast/lunch restaurant and the bar staff.
Much nicer then the other we went to for dinner, it's worth the extra money TRUST ME!
The food was better than people were telling me to expect, our favorites were the BBQ by the pool, it was made fresh right in front of you and rocked. TIP bring franks as they only have tobacco!
Catamaran excursion was a really good time, just bring sunscreen and your own mask and snorkel if you have them. They do let you use theirs, but they aren't that great for us big headed swimmers.

THE NOT SO GOOD:
Some issues were had in regards to transportation to the other resorts, we were told there was bus starting at 10:00am, and that would take you to the other Melia resorts and the market. We spent about 2 hours waiting for the "bus" when actually it wasn't a bus at all, but a white van that came and went twice while we sat there. Eventually we took a taxi for a few bucks
One big complaint is that the resort didn't have a bank to access money, and you needed to go the other resort (Las Dunas) to use the banking services which wasn't always working. We kind of wasted our Sunday running around to find a bank that would work and actually found the nearest resort to the Melia Buenavista

CONCLUSION:
All and all, a very great resort and we would stay again if we were to travel there again.

Room Tip: It's on the peninsula so If you don't get a sunrise room you can get a sunset room. Also the...

We recently got back from this beautiful resort the 17th of October, and it was exquisite. Right from the start of the trip we met incredibly friendly people/ staff. The service was better than anything I've ever experienced and the beach was indescribable. We had so much fun with the activities such as snorkelling. Our rooms were really pretty, comfortable, and big. They were very well maintenance. Twice a day our rooms were cleaned until they were spotless. Everyone was smiling and the service was very quick and professional. The bartenders made drinks for us without us having to wait and always with a smile as well. I especially want to mention the delicious coffee at the coffee bar. Our butlers were outstanding. It was my birthday and I was wished a happy birthday in a warm and welcoming way. They started with a jacuzzi with flowers and ended with a big and delicious cake. We were able to eat on our resort along with 2 others without any problems. The busses came every half hour for free. On our resort it was really peaceful and quiet. Great relaxation. I highly recommend this resort to people who don't need noise, or crowd. Thank you for this amazing experience. It'll be something I'll never forget. :)

My fiance and I went for that last week in September, going into October. We have been to Cuba before, but Melia Buenavista is by far the best resort. Fantastic service, and delicious food! We ate in the restaurant every night and there is plenty of variety! The room service was fantastic, buffet was OK, and the service at all the bars were great. All of the staff go out of their way to get whatever you need! And the buttlers were great as well! We had Joel! I highly recommend him. Melia Buenavista is definitely a 5 star resort!this is a quiet resort perfect for going to if you want to get away from kids and noise. So thankful that this was an 18+ resort. They do have Internet that is very very slow, but no wifi like it states on some websites. My fiance and I will definitely be back in the future!

We enjoy travelling and have visited Mexico, the Bahamas, Bermuda, many locations throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States, and our first trip to Cuba from September 14th to September 28th 2013 was by far the best all inclusive vacation we have ever been on thanks to Melia Buenavista and its incredible staff and was well worth the trip from Vancouver.

The resort is absolutely incredible. From the personal method in which we were greeted where we relaxed in the lobby seats and drank refreshments, while our butler signed us in and explained how the resort worked, what a wonderful relaxing introduction.

The resort is a dream come true from its butler service, spacious fantastic suites, beautiful gardens, breathtaking beaches, delicious food, and incredibly talented live musicians, the Melia Buenavista provides you with an atmosphere of sophistication and class often missing in other resorts. For two incredible weeks from the day of arrival to the day of departure we were treated like royalty.

Every member of the staff goes above and beyond to ensure that your vacation is a special experience and to this they succeed in spades. Daily, we received greetings from the hotels manager Juame who works endlessly to keep everything running so smoothly and makes it a mission to get to know each and every guest.

The impeccable maid service both day and night in room 2022 who maintained a spotless room with turn down service , chocolates, flowers and beautiful towel art with personal notes of sweet dreams for the night; The staff are all true professionals at what they do.

Thank you to all the following for a most memorable vacation with excellent service: Orestes and Osmany at the lively pool bar, Louis and Felix at the beach bar, Yami at the front desk, Yamisela and Yaiset the beautiful hostesses, Yaikel, Mario ,Leorvis, and Darisbey (who makes the best blended Mojito’s I have ever had) at the lobby bar and the kind gentleman on the main beach whose name escapes us but he was always dressed in white and ensured the set up of our chairs and towels under the palapas.

Also, a big thank you to our incredible butlers Gerardo and Edel who spoiled us with their personal service, afternoon fruit platters, and bubble baths decorated with flowers and accompanied by champagne.

The fantastic service we received each night at the a la carte restaurants including Noe, Yunior, Gleni, Mari who worked tirelessly at the restaurants to provide us with memorable dining experiences and warm personalized service. A shout out goes out to the incredible chef at the lunch BBQ who is a master at what he does and worked hard to ensure a wonderful barbeque experience and warm personable service.

The Melia Buenavista has a new Italian head chef Paolo. We always heard about limitations for food in Cuba. However, we had a great variety of wonderful food at all meals and this is a testament to the excellent skills and attention to detail provided by Paolo. His delicious meals and especially the incredible gnocchi, the perfectly prepared fish prepared as well as any high end restaurant in Vancouver, and his pasta dishes which were simply delicious!

Thank you to Pedro from the grounds crew for his fresh coconuts, and to all the other grounds staff who tended the gardens while we were there and greeted us every day and engaged us in conversation.

The beaches here are wonderful. We spent our time at the main beach which is great for swimming as well as snorkelling with its azul blue waters and soft white sand. There are no other resorts near the Melia which allows quiet walks along the beach without crowds.
The Melia Buenavista is about quiet, relaxation, tasteful entertainment, and a true adult only experience. It is not about loud partying, excess drinking, or loud shows; If you are looking for that, there are plenty of other resorts that offer this.

Melia Buenavista’s intimate environment allowed us to meet such sweet, fun, and wonderful other guests while there including Carlos and Danielle from Toronto (via Brazil) Eva and Alex also from Toronto (via Poland) as well as Fauzi and Lamia from Montreal (via Tunisia). Thank you for making this our best vacation ever!

In conclusion, all we can say is that we are dreaming about our eventual return.

Room Tip: All rooms are great, but second floor rooms have fantastic view of the ocean.

I went on vacation from September 28th until October 5th to the Melia Beunavista. This was mine and my husband’s first time in Cuba and we were pleasantly surprised with how excellent everything was…including the food!

Just to compare, we have been to Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe in Mexico, The Excellence in Mexico, and the Excellence in the Dominican Republic. We are used to being pampered in higher quality resorts and we were very happy with our experience at the Melia Beunavista!

Some general thoughts before I go more specific:
-The resort is about an hour and a half from the airport. Personally I do not mind the drive because I enjoy seeing the city.
-We brought Canadian currency to Cuba and exchanged it at the resort. We got about $8.5 Cuban Convertible Pecos (CUCs) for every $10 Canadian. Apparently you can exchange the money for a better rate at the airport; however, when we tried the line-up was HUGE! We didn’t want to miss our bus so we just went to the resort.
-We brought money to tip, but we also brought little gifts as well. We bought some toys and school supplies to give to the maids or servers who had children. We also bought some hats, hair accessories, gum and little items to leave for them as well. A lot of times they seemed to appreciate this more than the actual tips.

Rooms:
-We had a lower level room facing the ocean. I am usually pretty hesitant about being on the ground level because I always hear about bugs coming into the rooms. There were no bugs at all! The rooms are BEAUTIFUL! Very big! Very clean! The outdoor showers are great as well; they are very private so you do not need to worry about other people being able to see you. The mini fridge is packed with beer, water, and pop. I only wish that there were others snacks like chocolate or chips too; but if we got the munchies we simply ordered room service and they came in about 30 mins. The view of the ocean was amazing!! We walked around the resort and I don’t think any rooms will have a bad view. We were only a 20 second walk to the lobby and the pool. And about 1 minute walk to the beach and restaurants.

Food:
-My husband and I were originally hesitant to visit Cuba because we heard that the food was not good. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the food was actually very good. There are only 2 restaurants, but every night they have a different theme (Italian, Mexican, Romantic…). There was not a lot of selection (2 or 3 entrees to choose from), but all of the selections were very good! My husband would order one item and I would order a different choice so we could try them all, and there was nothing we did not like. The food served by the beach was excellent! It was probably our favourite place to eat! Tips: For breakfast ask for bacon!! They have the most delicious bacon but it is not on the menu! They will give you a plate of it if you ask. Also, ask for their sparkling Rose wine. That is the best house wine they have at the resort.

Service:
-The service at this resort was by far one of the best service experiences we have ever had!! We definitely took advantage of our butler service because they were amazing! Joel and Mikael were the BEST butlers ever! They completely spoiled us and are probably the main reason we would come back! The pool service was also amazing. I never went without a drink in my hand because the bartenders would always come to the pool to give us another one. Tips: Some people at the resort were upset because they felt that their butlers did not have good service, however, they never once went up and spoke with them. When you arrive find out who your butler is and speak with them! They will tell you what they will do for you….you just have to ask!

Beach:
-The beach was beautiful! The sand was white and the water was very blue and clear. What attracted us to the Melia Beaunavista were the 3 beaches. One beach had amazing snorkeling, the other was perfect for swimming and walking for a long distance, and the last beach had an amazing view of the sunset.

Pool:
-We spent most of our time at the main pool area. The pool was very beautiful and you never had to worry about finding a chair or a floaty. Tips: If you don’t feel like eating the food at the pool side grill, you can ask the servers for room service items such as pizza or fries.

Entertainment:
-If you are looking for a party resort then do not come here. Melia Beunavista provided you with amazing relaxation but do not think being relaxed is the same as being bored! There was always something to do. We would play volleyball in the pool, and they had shows in the evening. We also went into the city of Santa Clara for a day. At the city we visited a cigar factory, the Che Guevara monument, and explored the city. This was an amazing experience – if you enjoy history then I would highly recommend going into Santa Clara.

Room Tip: Any room is good. We had a ground level room overlooking the ocean and the view was amazing. All r...

This is our 5th time to Cuba but first time to Melia Buenavista, our visit was the week of September 20th, 2013. Our experience was simply amazing starting with the staff at the front desk, always friendly and willing to help. Our butlers, Maikel and Joel, couldn't do enough for us, always smiling and ready to assist with anything we needed. Bartenders were very funny and entertaining, always asking guests if they want a drink. Hotel manager, Jaume, very caring, approachable and professional person, always greeting and talking to guests. He dealt with our concerns promptly and efficiently to our satisfaction. He certainly is an excellent role role model for his staff, soft spoken and respectful to all.
Our oceanview room was breathtaking, clean and comfortable, the beach was spectacular, the grounds are very nicely kept. The food was very good, we would like to see more of a selection but there was always something to eat. The pool grill was the best for lunch. The privilege to visit and dine at the other Melia resorts was very much welcomed and appreciated.
This resort is very peaceful and has a relaxing atomsphere, we certainly recommend it to everyone.
This was truly the best resort we have been to in Cuba, looking forward to going back.
