“For the Golfers out there!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 16, 2012

It was an interesting experience, as we were the only ones to play the course that week-day in November (2012). Apparently this is not unusual, as the course is within a private housing development. The owners visit during the week-end at which time the course is busy. The price was very reasonable, $350 pesos for either 9 or 18 holes. We really enjoyed the golf course, but it is not easy. It has a variety of tees, and the challenges one faces are significant. The course has lakes, ponds, streams, ravines and sand to challenge the player. The condition of the course was reasonable, and the layout exceptional. We walked the course, but it does have its ups and downs. In the heat 18 holes can be a bit of a struggle to walk. There was one pull cart available but not in good condition. A power cart was also availlable at a price of $320 pesos. We would recommend you bring your own clubs and pull carts. There was only one negative and that being the rough. It is immediately adjacent to the fairway and is inpenetrable; a ball that enters is a ball lost. Bring balls. All in all though, it was an excellent experience, especially the cold beer on the terrace of the hotel after the game. Highly recommend the experience. One final point: we made our reservation thorugh our Tapalpa hotel. Because of the inactivity during the week the pro-shop is often left vacant, so it is important that they know in advance that you are coming.

I was in this hotel JANUARY 15-16 2011 ( Sunday and Monday ) I really liked it and would come back! The hotel is about 3 miles east of TAPALPA ( but about 5 miles away if you take into account the dirt/rock road to get there uphill ). If you do not have a car and are in a tight budget I wouldnt really recommend this place, yet is magical, why? it aint easily accessible by bus [i think by bus impossible :)] ) You might be able to get there by TAXI ( maybe $100-150 PESOS from TAPALPA ) we rented a car so we could get there easily. To get to the hotel again you will need to go to the main road and then go up a dirt ( rock ) road to get there. Before you get there ( whether you have a car or not ) buy all your supplies, WATER and snacks soda etc!!!!; It is such an annoying ride to get to the closest available reliable store, one final word of warning the restaurant there is really lame ( yes again ) ! Ok thats all negativity I will write. But OMG positiveness now. WOW beautiful view so magical you can see the lake and the volcano ( NEVADO DE ColimA ) and you can walk the grounds they are so magical we had a view to the stars and to the town at night Incredible!. I would defenetely stay there again. We stayed in a room with 2 sofa beds ( with a cement base) and a king size bed in a mezzanine floor ( called tapanco ) the view was spectacular although we were promissed a view of the lake and we had like a 10% view of it. Overall, this 3 1/2 star hotel ( US Standards ) is the best you can stay at highly recomended; price / quality ratio is fair. There is no a/c only a fireplace; it was warm when we went ( to USA Standards ) you can buy a fan for $200 PESOS if you are picky; temperature in the afternoon was in the 80s lows in the 50s. Service is A++. Tapalpa is considered a "PUEBLO MAGICO" one of 25 in Mexico. I was disapointed I had been to 4 Pueblos Magicos one of them Creel and Valle De Bravo which are far better. Anywho still in the area this should not be missed. Finally there is no Pool nor Gym; but there is GOLF and other activiies. Also great for kids

We stayed here 27 Dec 2009 to 2 Jan 2010. The hotel complex is magnificent!!!!. All the rooms are spotless and each has its own fireplace as temperatures can drop to the 50'sF in the evenings and are a very pleasant low 70"sF during the day. During the summer it would be the ideal place to excape the heat prevalent in the lower areas. . The air is clear with no humidity. After all, you are about 6500ft above sea level in the mountains. The views are spectacular, mountains, volcanoes , the pine forest and even a beautiful lake to fish in just minutes away (Trout ,Bass Etc). Of course there is a 9 hole Golf course on site as well.
The local village of Tapalpa is very quaint old Mexico and the shopping is excellent..Local sights to see are the largest waterfall in Mexico , the strange huge rock formations plus the Town of Sayula about an hour away which is the home of the world famous Ojeda Cutlery Factory - the best in Mexico!! and very highly rated world-wide..
If you like hiking, horseback riding, ATVing it's all available in Tapalpa.
The hotel food is very good and very reasonable in price. Most entrees are less than 120 pesos and our entire New Years Eve Party which included a huge buffet , complimentary traditional drinks and live entertainment came to 850 pesos for 2people. If you want other drinks , a very good bar is available.
The only thing better than the hotel is the Staff. Although most only speak Spanish they all seem to know what you want. They bring the wood for your room fireplace every day and will even start the fire for you.. The maids clean and change everything daily.
Heraldo is the Manager. He speaks English and attended to our every need.
There are lots of families that stay here and they have an Activity Director on site that keeps the children busy with crafts and games. She was spectacular during our Mexican New Year's Eve party. Lots of fun, traditional Mexican Games and dancing to the live music to the wee hours. This was probably the noisiest night of the year but because the Bungalow type suites are located throughout the huge property complex, noise is never a problem. and that is important too us as we like our peace and tranquility.
If you want to see what real Mexico is like, where the" Gringos" are rare and the people friendly with no hassle shopping come here!
What more can I say- come see for yourself then you can write your own review.
