This is a very casual and fun place where the very friendly staff dress up as pirates and the food is pretty good too!

A fun experience on a summer day in Tobermory, backed up with good local whitefish. Food is good for what you get, pricing is outstanding, covered patio is great, the pirate-themed servers create a fitting atmosphere for a small port town, and the place has been in business for 25 years. Give it a try.

Before our trip to Tobermory, i checked out Trip Advisor for the restaurants in the area. I gotta admit that Shipwreck Lee's had me confused. It's ranked # 1 but doesn't have a website that i could check the menu out beforehand.

We arrived after our 3.5 hr drive from Mississauga and decided to check out this # 1 place. What we found was that the reviews are absolutely "bang-on". If you're looking to have a formal sit down meal, with nice china and silver cutlery - then this place just isn't for you. But if you're looking for a place to simply hang-out with a bunch of friends and enjoy some good ol' fish and chips - then this is the place for you.

If you have a decent sense of humour and are willing to be entertained by a bunch of fun, kooky waiters and waitresses at their "pirate's best" - then you just gotta check this place out. And don't forget to watch ol' barnacle bill (the skeleton) by the entrance - he pops to life from time to time .. honest he does :-)

If however, you are an old stick-in-the-mud and just want to order your meal and not have any form of social interaction with the wait staff - then you are absolutely gonna hate this place. Because they not only come by to check on you - they stop by and chat .. and i mean CHAT.

As for the food - i had the haddock and chips and my friends all had the local whitefish and chips and we loved our meals. I ordered some gravy on the side and it was thick and good - just like home made.

The location is right off Hwy 6 on the corner of Bay St (Tobermory`s main street).

So to summarize :
Service - Good
Food - Good
Location - Good

... shiver me timbers .. head on down already why don`t you ...

After traveling 15 hours with my wife, daughter and two dogs this was a godsend! We stayed at the Peacock motel and this place was recommended because we could walk there with the dogs and eat on the deck which was a welcome surprise for the boys as they needed the fresh air and exercise.
The staff was very friendly and prompt all dressed in pirate attire. Our staff person was a look alike for Captain Jake Sparrow, though he says that is his evil twin, Luke as he is know was great! Sat down at the table and spoke with us about where we were from and then took our order! Some fried pickles, Fish and chips (fresh white fish) and Poutine! If you never had it you gotta try some! And don't forget the Flying Monkeys! Great beer!!
Very relaxing time, highly recommended. Enjoy your experience very laid back time! Enjoy the ferry ride over to the island too!

I do understand why people enjoy this place. The service was fun and friendly with the pirate thing and Jimmy Buffet playing. We were a couple but it would be a great choice for kids. The staff were having a blast playing with the kids so it felt sort of like a pirate Chuck E Cheese.

But we had some issues with the food. The sticky picnic tables were a bit off putting. Our server came over to offer us drinks. We tried to order a couple of beers but they were out of the first two we asked for. No biggie we're really not that picky.

Then went to order food and they were out of the first few things we tried to order. So we asked the server what she'd recommend that they had in stock. We split the mini samosas and got chicken fingers and the Georgian Bay whitefish fish and chips. All of the food with the exception of the fish was freezer to fryer and really bland and heavy. The fish was kind of on the mushy side and bland.

The staff were very cool and fun and kind of made up for the lame food. But wouldn't head back here unless we had kids with us. It's also a fairly inexpensive option for the area, but I'd rather pay more for satisfying food.
