This motel was the cleanest I've ever stayed at. The room and furnishings were distinctly unmotel-like. Also, the restaurant was superb and they have a fabulous patio overlooking Little Tub Harbour. If you're so inclined, they have wireless internet and also a computer in the office that you can use to check e-mails.

Tobermory only has two choices of types of places you can stay - Motels or B&B's. This motel is overlooking the lake and the entrance to the harbour. It is very clean and has a nice deck where you can sit to watch the boats go by. The rooms are traditional motel rooms - small with a small bathroom, and very basic. The motel is at the quiet end of town and it is a pleasant 5 min. walk along the side of the harbor to get to the 'busy' part of town where you will find fish and chips restaurants, gift shops, galleries and one pub overlooking the harbor. There is a continental breakfast included with the room charge which is very basic - coffee, one choice of cereal and one choice of bagel. If you prefer a good breakfast, stay at Innisfree B&B. It is a lovely B&B and serves a great breakfast - see their reviews also on this site. We have stayed there before but couldn't get a booking this time. We don't regret staying at Grandview - but please remember that it is a Motel, not a Hotel. Very basic, but nice and clean with a lovely view!

This area of Canada was beautiful. Water is clear and you can see forever. Fish and Chips and ice cream around the Little Tub Harbour were some of the best we had during our two weeks in Ontario.

We stayed in the Grandview Motel and it was fine. Must have been built in the early 60's with very little changes since then. Good value for the room. It was clean but not quiet. Tip....if possible do not stay next to the office as door traffic can be heard in Unit 4 even if you have your door closed. Bath rooms are small and old. Small restaurant and patio area have a great view of the water and the boats as they enter and leave Little Tub Harbour.

This is a great place to hike and camp.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Grandview Motel10th/11th May for the first 2 days of our East Canada roadtrip. We negotiated a good rate ($85 CAD + tax) on room 14 which was Kingsize with ensuite shower, mainly as this was the start of the tourist season and the town was only just waking up from Winter. Agreed the furnishing was dated but the bed room/shower rooms were spotlessly clean. There was plenty of room inside for me and husband to be comfortable (and at 6'7" he takes up a lot of room!) for a 3 week trip we had a lot of luggage and there was room enough for that too. The restaurant at Grandview was probably the best in the area it certainly had the best view the chef was excellent and I can recommend highly the cajun whitefish, the waitress was friendly and efficient. Breakfast was included in the price with a good selection of continental. The motel had one of the best locations, 5 min walk into the town and overlooking the lake and ferry but not too close to be bothered by the noise.
The owner was very friendly and took time to speak to all the guests making them feel welcome. This was initially going to be a 1 night stay before taking the ferry across to Manitoulin but we got talking to the owner of and art shop in the town who enthusiastically pointed out lots of things to do in the area (mainly hiking trails) we ended up doing part of the Bruce trail (niagara-tobermory) the peninsula has some of the best scenery (the grotto is a must-do hike)
Things to improve: Although the staff were friendly they didnt seem to be very knowledgeable of there own towns/areas attractions. It would be good if the owner/staff had more Information/knowledge available on what to do in the area if we hadnt got talking to the owner of the art shop we wouldnt have stayed the extra night.

We have looked long time for a lodging in Tobermory. There are not the usual hotel chains to find at Tobermory. But now - where we were there I can only say: Thank God. It is also to be owed to the small motels that Tobermory has remained such a nice and original place. From the outside it looks like a usual motel, as you find often in the areas of natural parks. The Grandview Motel is a little better than a motel. Its not a new building, but everything is working well. The shower is not very high, but my husband is 6,8 feet and he had a shower. The rooms are nice furnished and clean - also the bathroom. We have felt fine. The walls are a little light dependent. The position of the motel is very nice. On a small hill. From the restaurant at the breakfast you have a wonderfull view over the bay. But dont expect this on the rooms. Our room didnt have a view over the bay and I dont know of the other rooms. It could be, that only the restaurant has one. But this view is very nice.
We had not much contact with the stuff there, because we arived late and the lady at the front desk was also working in the restaurant and had much work to do. So there was no time to talk to her. But one day before we called her because our child was sick and we had to come one day later. They changed us to the next day without a fee. This was very nice of them. They didnt had to do this.
From the Motel there is a very nice footpath direkt to the harbour. It takes just 5 minutes to go there. For the price of 85 $can (end of septemper) for a room with 2 beds including breakfast we found the motel more than good. We would come again to this Motel and would recommend this place to others. We found the "free" breakfast was very good. We are always going to acomodations were breakfast is included and we can say at Grandview it was good with many choices. And it was nice to have the chance for breakfast also early in the morning - enough time to eat and get the first ferry. Not every Motel in Tobermory do this!
And at least - as we saw the other acomadations there we were happy to found this place. This motel has his own charme.

We stayed one night at Grandview Motel on our way to Manitoulin Island and it was absolutely beautiful. They don’t call it Grandview for nothing. We sat on the deck and watched the Chi-Cheemaun come in and out and all the beautiful yachts sailing into Little Tub Harbour. Our room was number 14. It was big with a king size bed and was $95 plus tax. The first thing we noticed when we entered the room was how clean it was. My wife is a neat freak and she even checked the windows and sills. Absolutely spotless. It was June 27 and the weather was cool so we didn’t need the air conditioner. Our window had blinds which darkened the room nicely and gave us complete privacy or we could open them to let the sun in. There was no bathroom exhaust fan but there was a window we could open which, in my opinion, works better than an exhaust fan. My wife plugged her hair dryer in the socket in the light fixture. It worked flawlessly and safely. The bar of soap in the shower and on the sink were the same ones that all hotels use. They’re the little ones that are wrapped up. The shower even had a body soap, shampoo and conditioner dispenser. The walk in shower wasn’t really big but it was adequate. More importantly it was clean and the water was hot. The towels were blue which complemented the décor of the room. There was no coffee maker in the room but there’s an unlimited supply a few short steps away in the dining room. There was no phone in the room so if we needed to call someone, we used our cell phone. I was surprised that they had cable TV in the room. Being way up there I thought they would have an antenna or satellite dish. There was an unlimited supply of ice for our cooler at no charge. It’s important to keep in mind that Grandview is a “motel” not a “hotel”. It was probably built in the 1950’s but it’s obvious how the owners work at keeping it modernized and continually upgrading. The walls in the room were new with some kind of beautiful blue siding instead of drywall with new laminate flooring and new, or at least clean, throw rug. Because it’s a motel it doesn’t have room service and that’s probably why they don’t have phones in the rooms. What it does offer is clean, comfortable, affordable and friendly accommodations. The staff is competent and friendly and they return courtesy with courtesy. The next time we need to stay overnight in Tobermory, it will definitely be at the Grandview Motel and we highly recommend it.

We spent two nights ($120 plus 14% tax per night) at this Grandview Motel and can honestly say it is absolutely the smallest, most minimalist and under-equipped hotel room we have ever stayed in. It is as if someone has spent the off-season figuring out ways to cut back to the bare bones any item of luxury or necessity in order to save them money and to ensure that guests do not return. The lack of air-conditioning was the first shock. It was a typically very hot and humid day when we arrived and the sun was beating in the uncurtained window, heating the room to scorching point. (There were some vertical blinds fortunately we were able to close - the management must have forgotten to remove them during their economy drive). There was no bathroom exhaust fan -- this was awful, very sluggish plumbing, no safe electrical outlet for razor/hairdryers, etc. just a socket in the light fixture. One tiny bar of soap (we felt sure had there been a way for them to cut it in half then they likely would have done so), a couple of thin navy blue towels which we assumed were clean -- one expects white or light colored to be certain, but I suppose they can wash the linen in cold water this way and further save money. And no furniture: as in drawers, bedside tables, etc. presumably because the one bed took up the whole room. (My husband jokingly suggested that as the room had no drawers it pre-empted any impulse they may have harbored to supply a Bible). A television on a table (no drawers) and two small shelves beside the bed. We had to live out of our suitcase and our car -- take your pick. No coffee maker, no screen door, no bathtub (a miniscule shower stall), no phone. For $120, plus 14% tax a night, we felt it was very overpriced compared with other motels in the area where we have stayed. Included was a continental breakfast with minimal choices and with the dining room being cleaned whilst we ate. When we asked if she thought it appropriate that this cleaning activity take place right around us whilst we were eating, the lady replied that this was part of her job and she carried on dragging and scraping tables and chairs and sweeping up piles of food from the dinner remnants of the night before. Interestingly, each room has one plastic chair outside each door -- in line with keeping things to a bare, frugal minimum presumably, but it was gratefully used by my husband and I whilst we took turns in getting dressed -- there not being enough space in the room for two adults to do this simultaneously. Cabins on cruise ships have more elbow room. This hotel management has chosen for its slogan: "The Only Thing We Overlook is Georgian Bay." They should add to the list the items one normally finds in a hotel room when spending $120 plus per night and which are missing from their offering, i.e., a coffee maker, air conditioning, adequate towel supply, furniture, electrical outlets, door screens, a toilet that flushes at first push, and how about a frig??? The previous hotel we stayed at in the area had one and we only paid $102, and the view was better - even grander! And a "thank you" and a smile when we handed in the key when checking out would have been nice too! We definitely would not stay here again.
