Attraction details
Owner description: During the summer months, visiting Cyprus Lake, in particular the Grotto and Indian Head Cove can leave some visitors feeling frustrated and confused if they are denied access to these sites. As a result of the increasing popularity of these attractions, the entrance way and parking to access these areas are at times complex. Additionally, the rocky terrain along the coastline and access to the Grotto can be challenging for some. Please visit the park website for more detailed information on the Grotto, what to expect, and other attractions in the park and surrounding area if you're unable to access the Grotto. Additionally, visitors should make the Parks Canada Visitor Center in Tobermory their first stop so they can plan their stay and get up to date information on parking and other visitor activities.

It is worth the walk to see the Grotto. Make sure you have good walking shoes the rocks can become slippery.

“An excellent hike !”

An excellent hike, with some rock climbing. Great views. The water is so blue! Nice groomed trails through the woods to the shores of Georgian Bay.

“Stunningly beautiful...if you can see it through all the people.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

I have visited The Grotto a few times, by both hiking from the park and kayaking in from town. It is quite a breathtaking place and I would say the view from the water is my favourite way to see it. It is a great place for cliff diving for the adventurous, which I left to my hubby and brother in law. Exploring the grotto area is neat as well. I wouldn't advise swimming though the grotto unless you are an experienced driver.

The one downside to this place is that during the summer time it seems to be always packed. The Overcrowding takes away from the pleasure of nature, in my opinion. If you hate the crowds like me I recommend going in the Spring or Fall.

“A Natural Wonder not to be missed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

The Grotto is a natural rock formation on the Georgian Bay coast, accessed from the Cyprus Lake (Campground) Trailhead in Bruce Penisula National Park. An admission fee does apply and a walk of approximately 20 minutes is required to get to the water. The trail to the shore line is crushed gravel and considered accessible but the last few steps to reach the Grotto are rugged so be prepared to park your stollers and walk. Those with mobility problems will not be able to get all the way to the Grotto due to the terrain but will still get to see spectacular views of Georgian Bay.The views are definitely worth the walk. A washroom building is located at the shore line. For the adventurous, you can climb down to the water and swim around the Grotto but be forewarned, Georgian Bay's waters never really warm up, even in August. You will have a brisk swim. Those without mobility problems may continue hiking along the Bruce Trail near the Grotto and have a choice of several paths back to the Trailhead and parking lot. This is ancelellent example of nature's rugged beauty at its best and should not be missed if you are in the area.
