“Absolutely fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2009

Not only does it look great, it also feels great, tastes great,.. just one great experience, so we've been there every day of our stay, to relax, to have great diner, breakfast, stroll down the little shop down the back.
The people were very kind and relaxed. Also when it was a singers/musician's evening, the vibes were wonderfull and layedback.
Ps. if you love tea, you'll become very happy here!
Ps. 2: if you love cakes: they're homemade and look delicious!

“Extremely poor”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2009

This looks so amazing from the outside, with the cute little shop, and lovely garden in the back with very friendly chipmunks.. but after deciding to eat there the experience went down hill! we waited over an hour for sandwiches! we were obviously forgotten.. our waitress as sweet as she was, was really out there!!! so after an about an hour and a half and 3 reminders we were still waiting, we decided to leave and just pay for our 2 coffees and a juice which was $18!!!!!! we will never go back to eat...

“Just Okay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2009

From the outside this place looks really cute! The food was just okay, as well as the service. They don't do any serious cooking here, its all quick microwave or toster oven items, no fabulous cook here. But their tea was heavenly. So if you want a good cup of tea, so here, if you are hungry, go elsewhere!

“Food is poor, service was pitiful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2009

It looks so cute from the outside, perched there above the town all multi-coloured and canopied that we decided to give it a shot. The menu looked pretty interesting. However, when the quesadillas arrived they appeared to have been microwaved and contained items including grated carrots and cucumber- not very Mexican. They were both rubbery and tasteless. However, when we sent them back, the proprietress shouted at me (yes, shouted) "Well, you ordered it!" Yes, we did, and we expected it to be edible... She continued to berate me by arguing that the problem lay with our undeveloped palates (I'm going to use that line next time someone complains about my cooking!) because "everybody loves our food". She refused to deduct the item from the bill and everyone else at the table was too afraid to complain. We left in a hurry never to return... Go only if you like crappy food and servers who yell at you if you don't like the food.

“What a find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2008

Mostly we were looking for bike rentals and free wireless and it was the bike rental sign that drew our attention. But A Mermaid's Secret turned out to be our 'find of the week' in Tobermory. This is only the third season for this cafe/boutique that specializes in fine, fresh ingredients and also offers bikes for rent and white fish (the local specialty) for sale and shipment. Free wireless brought us inside where we sampled sandwiches, sweets, and quesidillas (sp?)--at least three times.Barbara Anderson managed the bustling cafe with amazing proficiency despite having her arm in a sling; and David Medeiros at the bike rental/fish mart not only set us up with bikes but pointed us to the pristine, private cove that us foreigners aren't supposed to find out about. (He says he only gives the word to bikers, not drivers!) A Mermaid's Secret is an absolute treasure and you can't possibly visit Tobermory without hanging out there!
