Description: Nel 1940, il maestro pasticcere messinese Dante Veronelli rileva dal napitino Jannarelli nel centro di Pizzo il Gran Bar Excelsior, che in seguito cambierà il nome in Gelateria Dante proprio in onore al suo primo proprietario, per proseguire l'attività imprenditoriale si avvale della collaborazione di un giovane pasticcere di belle speranze anche lui di Messina, Giuseppe De Maria, al secolo "Don Pippo", inventore del Tartufo di Pizzo. A seguito della morte del Veronelli, il De Maria rimane l'unico proprietario dell'esercizio.Nel 1950, Giorgio Di Iorgi il quale aveva iniziato la carriera lavorativa dentro la gelateria con il ruolo di cameriere, comincia ad apprendere l'arte della produzione del gelato; quindici anni dopo, in seguito al pensionamento del maestro De Maria, ne rileva l'attività della Gelateria Dante. Da questo momento in poi il Bar Dante viene gestito a conduzione familiare, tramandandosi da padre in figlio la ricetta segreta per la realizzazione dei gelati.

Place where tartuffo was invented. I ate Nero and my wife ate Bianco, and there is no doubts - Nero is rock!

A corner building with fascinating views of the piazza and the sea, this place is a must when in Pizzo. Being a pistacchio lover, I decided to try the pistacchio tartufo and it was clearly a very good choice. Although always packed with people in the evening, there is no wait as the service is very reliable.

No doubt, Pistachios and Black Pearl are the best !!! My pictures explaine everything! It's rather an ice cream dessert than just a gelato found in the side road. Bravo! We went twice in a week!

We came as a group for a demonstration of how the famous Tartufo is made and had a generous portion.
We came back the next day and had another - it was so good.
Bar Dante was established in 1940 - so must be the oldest in Pizzo .
Lovely situation on the Piazza della Repubblica.
Well recommended.
