“Wonderful place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 2, 2012

Myself and a friend stayed at Green Mountain Chalets for a week at the end of March.
The Chalet has a cosy and friendly feel to it with a log burning stove, lounge area and a fantastic vaulted dining area. We found our rooms to be spacious, comfortable and clean.
The food really was excellent, a tasty varied menu which satisfied even my considerable appetite. Plenty of complimentary wine to wash it all down with too!
Our hosts were all too willing to provide transport to and from the nearby ski lifts. On several occasions they joined us on the slopes and were very helpful in showing us there local knowledge of the huge Three Valleys ski area.
James and Gemma have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into providing a relaxing and enjoyable time for their guests. What does seem to be effortless to them though is the genuine charming and friendly atmosphere that makes Green Mountain Chalets a unique and wonderful place to stay.

we had one of the happiest ski weeks we've ever had with James and Gemma. The chalet has great charm and atmosphere, the food was fantastic, and James and Gemma were friendly, but not intrusive.
They took us to a good assortment of bars after the day's skiing, and drove us to and from the slopes at our convenience. It was door to door service in the Landrover and Mercedes, with very little ski carrying.
We highly recommend this chalet, whether you are planning a group holiday, or for individuals or couples wanting somewhere friendly to stay.

We stayed with Green Mountain over the week of March 10th, and it was honestly one of the best holidays I have ever had. Gemma and James are the ultimate hosts, laid back but accommodating, casual but always totally professional. The chalet is lovely, spacious and modern whilst keeping an alpine feel without ever seeming forced or pretentious. Everywhere you look little touches show Gemma and James' eye for detail - lolly bowls, fairy lights in vases, amusing pictures around the place. Food each night is really amazing, the menu well thought-out and the cake after you get back in from the slopes showing that they really do know what is like to come in at 6pm and be starving whilst you wait for dinner (plus a different cake every day - amazing!).

Yes a few little things could be better - occasional smells from the sceptic tank, broken broadband - but they are small aspects of the whole experience and don't detract from the whole GMC experience. Plus if you bring these things up with James and Gemma they will invariably listen and try to sort the problem out if they can.

Overall though you'd be mad to get hung up on those tiny details when the whole experience is just so bloomin' good. Would definitely go back again.

I stayed with James and Gemma at their main Chalet in St Martin de Belleville for only 2 nights, but I was immediately made to feel welcome and like I should just treat the chalet like home.

The chalet itself is a beautiful inside, with the dining area being a real focal piece. They have been working to improve the chalet since they have had it for the last couple of years and this includes a very welcoming fire in the downstairs lounge and then an extra lounge upstairs with enough DVD's to see you through a whole year let alone a week. My room was basic but clean and very comfortable, I especially liked the complimentary slippers and robe and also the green ribbon tied around my towels! The bathroom was clean and the shower very welcoming! With free Tigi you can't go wrong!

James and Gemma are very relaxed around the chalet, getting up super early to prep the evenings meal so they can come riding the whole day with us! They took us all over the 3 valleys in one day which as I have never been before was amazing. Gemma even got the 70 year old skier we had with us dancing on a table at one point.

I am sad to see a negative review below. I felt they wanted to take everyone to the mountain when they wanted to go and that they looked forward to the chalet guests bonding as a whole and riding together, they were very open to times for transfers. As for the icey slope outside, I know James had tried his best to hack out some steps and salt the drive way but there was just too much snow, as for the dog poo... I too live in France and I'm afraid that's just the way it goes! Not the most attractive thing but unfortunately it remains a constant!

Thanks for an amazing trip guys and look forward to my next stay!!

We have just stayed at Green Mountain Chalet and it really was wonderful. The chalet is beautiful, warm, clean and comfy. It was the perfect place for a big group and would also work well for couples looking for a more romantic setting.

James and Gemma have a great passion for this amazing business that they have built. I have done a season in a chalet and know how hard it can be. I have never met chalet hosts who worked harder for their guests. They worked tirelessly for us and on their 'day off' cleaned up, drove us to the slopes and cleared all the snow outside the chalet. They are a really fun and welcoming couple who we really enjoyed spending time with.

It was a brilliant week in a beautiful resort, fantastic food, lovely chalet with fun, hard working chalet hosts.

We booked to stay with GMC as a large family group of adults in March 2012.

Chalet Maison sparkles with personality and fun; arriving and exploring the character of each room and coming down for dinner in that wonderful 'cave' dining room was just brilliant.

The lay out of the Chalet allows plently of scope for a family group - curl up with a book by the fire or watch snow board films on bean bags.

The food is not fine dining but who wants that after a day on the slopes! Its hearty, delicious and plentiful. The chalet wine is generously provided and very drinkable!

James and Gemma put everything into making the experience a special one and continue to want to make it better and better.

I wonder if the recent negative reviewer thought to voice any of their concerns whilst they was on the holiday or just bottle it up to vent on trip advisor as though it was a package holiday with no one on the end of the phone.

Having worked for a ski company in the past I can appreciate just how hard working the GMC team are and how much they will want you to have a fantastic holiday. They quietly get on with making sure everything is top notch.

A great example of this - we felt the packed lunch sandwiches were a little on the small side - we let James and Gemma know and straight away we were provided with better sizes and thanked us for our feedback. No issues.

There is plenty to do at the chalet after a long day on the slopes - we had a fantastic evening watching the rugby on the wide screen and with beers on ice in the living room - amazing! We watched films, played games (scrabble through to beer pong!) James and Gemma happily drove us back from VT after a really fun ares evening at La Folie Duche.

Thank you for a really special experience guys - we will tell all our friends what a great holiday we had with you!

See you soon!!!

Returned today from a magnificent week in the 3Valleys with the warmth of the weather matched by the warmth of hospitality from James and Gemma. It is quite hard to understand the half-heartedness and negativity of a couple of recent reports, but I guess we all come to a holiday with different expectations.
This is a real French mountain hamlet, a world away from the tacky commercialism of VT itself, tucked into the steep mountainside below St Martin. As others have said, the website is completely up-front about the location - if you want manicured blandness, maybe this is not for you!
Gemma and James's hospitality is exceptional. They work extremely hard to make their guests as comfortable as possible, they provide door-to-ski-lift transfer to the slopes, 20% discount at the ski hire shop, are ready to make more than one trip to accommodate guests' different needs, spend time socialising at the end of the day, before arriving home to finish cooking the meal each night. (I don't recognise that as a "long-term holiday" for them, or a questionable work ethic!)
The meals were without exception far above the standard of any chalet I have stayed in before. The originality and inventiveness, and the quality and presentation were worthy of a really good restaurant. Excellent free wine, always more than we as a party could actually drink. To add to that, the warm and enjoyable company of our hosts at each meal, getting to know each of their guests and generally helping everything along. While we were there, James was trying out some new recipes, which got definite approval from us.
A typical example of the attention to detail - the 6 Nations Rugby game between England and France was recorded on Sky so that we could watch it AFTER we returned from the slopes, on their massive-screen wall projector system.
Yes, we had no WiFi available all week. But if the critics had taken a moment to ask about this problem, they would have heard just how much hassle the Orange WiFi service has been causing, and how slow the technicians have been to respond to James's repeated calls for it to be fixed.
Thanks GreenMountain for a brilliant stay. I would recommend anybody to read the clear, straightforward, honest website info and if it sounds like your sort of place, go for it!
