Yes the Penguins are cute. Yes it great to see them come out of the water together. Yes you appreciate how unique they are. BUT this is one of the more over hyped experiences I have seen. The breathless enthusiasm with which this event is promoted ignores telling you the following:
You have to see it with about 4000 (yes 4000) other people. The place is a madhouse. You have to sit quite a distance from the penguins; they don't show up until sundown; the lights are low. So you are sitting about 300 feet from the tiny penguins, in the dark squinting to see something - mostly you just see outlines.
You have to get there about 2 hours early to get a decent seat; you are on the ocean so its is cold - you need to bring jackets and blankets.
You can't take photos!
The penguins are clearly over promoted as a fund raiser for the Island's conversation efforts.
Hate to sound like a curmudgeon, but really?
