“A real Polynesian experience, loved it”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

Our plane was an hour late but Dad was there to pick us up. Note that at the airport you walk past the hotel desks, grab your bags and hop on the catamaran for the short ride to the main pier in Vaitape, no charge as it is included in the flight price.

Gloria the mama of the house welcomed us and offered dinner. The Chow Mein was the best we had in our whole Polynesian experience and highlighted just how poor our lunch at the Meridien was. The rooms are pretty basic but more than adequate. We lit mossie coils at door and windows and had no problems even without mossie nets.

The pension is just 10 minutes outside the town centre and you walk past the main supermarket. Watch out for the ridiculous taxi prices, car hire is not much better. Luckily Dad gave us a couple of lifts to the beach etc.

When it came to pay Gloria said it was this much, we said are you sure? Including pickup/dropoff, lifts, accommodation and dinner on the first night it was our most reasonable of 5 weeks in Polynesia on it's most expensive island. We had a lovely time at a 10th of the cost of an over the water bungalow but it was the experience of genuine Polynesian hospitality that will stay with us. Thanks Gloria!

We confirmed our airport shuttle pickup the day before and Gloria was there, right on time. She waited while we did a little shopping then took us to her small 4 unit motel-like pension. Each room has a king and twin sized bed, comfortable chair, separate kitchenette with table and 2 chairs, separate bathroom, and a small back patio with a line for drying clothes - good if you've been traveling awhile like we had.

You definitely need to be up for the real-life experience of living near the chickens, barking dogs, neighbor's music, and mosquitos that we've had in all the pensions we've stayed at, as opposed to the luxurious bungalow over the water experience. But that is what we wanted. Getting to know the family and the feel of life in the town far outweighed any annoyance.

Dinner wasn't included, but twice Gloria surprised us by feeding us dinner anyway (3 guests one night, 5 guests the second)! Other nights we cooked in her kitchen, since about the only thing in the room kitchenette is a few dishes, utensils, and a fridge to keep the beer cold. We always ate in the large dining room where meals were generally served. Of course, if you like to go out to dinner, the reasonably priced roulottes and small restaurants are just down the street.

Pension Noni is walking distance from the big SuperU grocery store and the town of Viatape, across the street from the water which is behind the Total station where there's a dock, boats moored nearby - including the fishing boat owned by the family - and a beautiful view. You can even swim off the dock if you like. 3 steps out our door was another beautiful view of Mount Pahia. Breakfast - baguettes with butter and jam, fruit, fruit juice, and excellent coffee - was sometimes served at a little table outside where we could enjoy the sight.

The family couldn't have been nicer. One night Gloria's daughter has us all (there was one other guest at the time) hop in her SUV for a ride to the north end of the island where we climbed up to a WWII gun emplacement and watched the sunset. We definitely hated to see the sun set on our wonderful week at Pension Noni.

The owner tell us that he pick us up at the port shuttle, but he didn´t come, we had to take a taxi
and she never said Sorry
The pension is located in a very horrible place, you can´t see the sea, you are in front of a petrol station. They don´t help for advice to places to go.
When we asked for password for wifi she said she didn´t remeber, just other person in the pension gave it to us.
When we asked for the key of the room she said it was lost, incredible.
No mosquito net, when it is necessary
I can´t undestand how the other review are so good.
Don´t stay here, go to Matira Beach where you have 2 pension, nono pension and robert ina pension

I had opportunity to stay here for 5 days. Noni is a very nice family pension with excellent service, nothing to complain about this pension and I love this family that runs this pension. Specially Ms. Gloria.
Good location to everything from boat dock to roulette, restaurant or market near there in Bora Bora.
You can rent a scooter or bicycle to tour the island yourself and take time to enjoy it. Matira beach is a must visit when you get to Bora Bora

My husband and I spent three nights at this pension and we really felt at home and almost part ‎of the family. We therefore highly recommend this place, which is also very well located: 10-‎‎15 min walking to Vaitape (wharf city), where you can find stores, rent a bike, travel ‎agencies… The rooms are clean and apart from the bathroom there is a kitchen and a small ‎place outside at the back where you can hang your laundry. Breakfast is also tasty: coffee, tea, ‎baguettes with butter and jam and fresh fruit. The closest supermarket is located 5 min away ‎from the pension. Also a very good Chinese restaurant (Le Panda d’Or) and expensive but ‎tasty French-Polynesian (St. James) restaurant can be reached with a 5 min walking. At this ‎pension you get a lot for your money.‎

Attractive and practical layout. Good little kitchen (no kettle) - very hot water in bathroom. Characterful, cheerful, friendly and generous owner and husband who even gave us a round trip of the island. Good location close to Vaitape.

The Noni Pension is a fabulous bed and breakfast establishment in Vaitape, Bora Bora. The owners and friends are superb and make you feel like part of the family from the minute you set foot in it. Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are true Polynesians in every respect, charming, friendly and so hospitable. Do not be shocked if you are invited to dine with them on your first night as they did with me. I felt quite humbled by their generosity.

Supermarkets and other shops are close by with a range of goods to satisfy most people. It is close to the wharf so transfers are quick and easy. The roulottes are excellent for good and cheap food. The Noni is clean and well kept and you can trust the proprietors to take care of your belongings while you are there.

This is one place you will find hard to leave. Elina, Teva and Mammi - thank you! xxx
