“Perfect location but very $$”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

We got a twin room on the lake side and private bathroom in the Mountain lodge for 1495 NOK as we just rocked up and the hostel was fully booked. It was more than we wanted to pay bt that's Norway for you, at least most of the attractions are free.
Situated perfectly right at the start of the trail. Rooms clean with new bathrooms. Small twin separate beds but comfortable. Way overpriced like most hotels in Norway but at least you don’t have to pay for parking, can have a nice shower and it is convenient. Beakfast left much to be desired and the wifi didn’t work very well besides in the reception.

Stayed here as part of a hiking long weekend. Accommodation is basic but functional if you are spending a few days in the area. Food and alcohol on the expensive side but to be expected in Norway.

Make sure you take your swimsuit and towel because the lake is lovely for a refreshing dip after a long days hike.

Handy if you are walking to Pulpit rock because the trail starts just outside the hostel.

Perfect to miss the crowds! We couldnt believe how many people arrived from 10am onwards. The lodge is in a great location & not expensive although the bunk beds arent that comfy!

The bfast s great - the dinner ok... a bit buttery for my tastes (was salmon or chicken) so Id probably get food before dinner & just grab a view drinks overlooking the lake - really stunning!

Set off 9am. If you're fit you'll be at pulpit rock for 1030 ie before the crowds. Then stick around for 30mins & head up to the other peak (merd-....?) which had stunning views of Stavanger. Definitely worth the extra 2hrs. We didnt rush & we made it back to the lodge (+ got showers!) by 230. Amazing day!

This hotel is very basic. We had a few different cabins while staying here. I was in a 4 bed room which was very narrow and only had one sink. There was barely enough space to put all our rucksacks. We had a shared bathroom with the rest of the corridor which was clean, but again an extremely small shower. But it's just what you need if you just want to climb to Preikestolen. Beds were very comfy and clean. We also had free Wi-Fi.

Other groups who were with us had a kitchen in their cabins, but no bathroom. Again, small rooms.

There was a large common area in my cabin which was fantastic for relaxing in.
The breakfast was also fantastic and very well prepared for the amount of people staying.

Cabins provide a fantastic view over the lake and are at the bottom of the climb to Preikestolen.

The hotel itself is very basic (in the Scandinavian way) and clean. Rooms are small but then you don't go there to sit in the room. The restaurant had very good food and I strongly recommend having a dinner there (unlike breakfasts, which are average). The views from the hotel are amazing and it's hypnotizing just to sit outside and enjoy the surroundings.

The hotel is roughly one hour walk from Preikestolen. The path is quite easy and you can see people wearing shorts and flip flops walking there. Unfortunately, it is very crowded too.

Room Tip: We had a back room (not facing the lake) and were still happy as we only needed a place to sleep.

Preikestolen fjellstue is located at the base of Preikestolen (The Pulpit Rock). This place is well connected by bus which connects you to the Stavanger ferry. It is located in a beautiful spot by the lake and under the mountain. We stayed here for a night in a double room which had a bunker bed, but the room was a bit smaller than the expectation, but you will not feel like being in the room except for sleeping. You can sit by the lake, go up to the Preikestolen, a one night stay in this beautiful location refreshes you comlpetely from your hectic schedule. there is a separate kitchen if you want to cook your own food or you can have food in thier restaurant, but dont forget to book your table in the restaurant when you check in as the staff and resources are limited.
