“Superb - if you can find it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012

Behind an anonymous exterior (we drove past twice whilst searching for the restaurant) on a narrow street in the old town (parking a nightmare!) is hidden a real gem.

The quality of the food and the attentiveness of the staff are first-rate. There is a wide choice of set menus from €20 upwards.

We enjoyed a starter of foie gras (accompanied by grapefruit – a first for us, but it worked well); followed by turbot with artichoke sauce, and steak, with again an unusual sauce of ginger and lemongrass. The desserts were superb, especially the Café Liégois.

As we left we were asked by other diners not to post any recommendations on the internet ... the locals hope to keep this delightful restaurant their secret!

“COTE RUE - THE BEST!!! Restaurant in Draguignan - Maybe in the whole Var.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

Benjamin Collombat, a young potential Michelin star chef with his own spanking new restaurant, introduced a miracle prix fixe menu at 20 euros. His food is just plain exquisite. His restaurant impeccable. The service super pro. Muted Nora Jones or smooth jazz digestable music.

Although the food is simple perfection, this restaurant did seem pricey to me at first.. But recently, Benjamin did me (and all other modest means folks in town) this huge gourmet favor. He started a luncheon special he calls "La Suggestion du Chef". You eat what he prepares for the day. And you can't believe your good luck.

I live here. Now that the price is right at lunch time, I go often ( Kindle in tow) to indulge in a gastronomic - but not astronomic - lunch. Last week I ate there 3 times.

Wednesday: Escargots with small pieces of chicken breast cooked just pink in a creme of tiny Provençal vegetables, Thursday: Sauté of lamb with teensy vegetables and flower petals sprinkled on top, and on Friday: Filet of mackerel cooked to perfection with purée of some obscure exotic delightful vegetable on the side. Desserts were 1) chocolate mousse cake, 2) A ball of chocolate (like chocolate bar but thinner) off of which you pulled the top to find inside berries and tiny meringues, a dollop of home made raspberry sorbet on a not too sweet bed of whipped sauce made with olive oil. (TO DIE)... 3) Yesterday was berries in a red sauce in a crystal bowl with that same luscious purplish sorbet and light light fromage blanc.

Portions are delicate, Refined. Tastes so sublime, you don't need a ton to be satisfied. Thank you Benjamin. You have made Draguignan into a gourmet destination.
