“Driving with lemons south from granada”
Reviewed September 2, 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We loved this holiday rental. We have rented many houses over the last two decades and this is one of the best. We enjoyed better-than-average weather at Easter 2017, when the house was trailing with purple wisteria blossoms on an overhead trellis buzzing with bees. The sheltered south facing terraces, leading down to a child-safe fenced pool, were simply gorgeous. The four children were delighted by an easter egg hunt in this lovely garden. We enjoy cooking local food when travelling, and the kitchen here was very well equipped and roomy, and had a gas cooker, making all the difference. All of the many bedrooms were comfortable and we slept well. The living areas work well for winter and summer use, I imagine - we ate inside at night in April, but out for breakfast and lunch. The owners are utterly charming and located next door (but the house is entirely private and not overlooked). They were unfailingly helpful and responsive- they are English. On the one side of the house is an extensive orchard where our children enjoyed fruit spotting and there are fine views out over the valley below Orgiva. Other highlights are the tastefulness and thoughtfulness of the redesign by the current owners - the house has wheelchair access to bedrooms; it will suit many groups- families with different generations, friends etc. Location is good- striking distance to various costas and beaches, whitewashed mountain villages and Granada. I highly recommend you read the house's copy of Gerard Brennan's South From Granada, an entertaining memoir of a Bloomsbury group settler in the alpujarras in the 1920s.

“Most beautiful view of the Sierra Nevada”
Reviewed August 9, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

After a long journey from Madrid, within 10 mins of arriving at Almond Hill House our two boys were splashing in the gorgeous pool and we were relaxing, having a glass of chilled wine and listening to the sound of the cicadas. The view from our bedroom has to be one of the best views in Andalusia, looking out on the amazing Sierra Nevada. The location is so tranquil that by the next morning we were already feeling totally relaxed. The inside of the house is beautifully decorated with a large farmhouse kitchen, ideal for preparing meals together. There is a lovely terrace for eating al fresco with a well maintained garden and grounds. The swimming pool is securely gated which is reassuring for the kids. Despite feeling truly in the countryside, the local town Orgiva is only 5 mins drive away and beautiful Lanjaron is only 15 to 20 mins away. We had the most wonderful holiday; Almond Hill House is not only good for the body but also good for the soul. We will be back.....

“Beautiful and relaxing private setting to rejuvenate and enjoy family and friends.”

Great place to experience rural Spain with modern comforts in a peaceful setting. Our stay at Almond Hill House was like being sent to another dimension where the stunning views of the mountains, beautiful landscaping and the farmhouse chic décor of the house made our stay very enjoyable and the best way to reconnect with good friends that we are only able to see every few years. Quaint nearby villages provided great shopping and had a variety of restaurants for great dining. Not far from beaches and larger towns and cities.
Memorable evening meals on the patio, homemade lemonade, lounging by the pool – sadly we had to leave.

Owners very attentive to ensure everything we needed was available.

We had a wonderful 10 days over Easer at Matt and Sarah's beautiful villa. The weather was perfect and the villa amazing for families. The pool is gated so perfect for children and there are lots of lovely games at the villa. We had a super time and can thoroughly recommend it!

“Glorious scenery, glorious house and garden ....”
Reviewed September 20, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

Almond Hill House was even more beautiful than the website showed with enough comfortable spaces for us as a group of friends to cook and socialise over meals indoors or on the terrace. We could equally all find our own quiet corners to read and relax in the shade or swim and soak up the sun.

Some hiked the hills while others shopped and explored local villages ...everyone loved it and our hosts could not have been more helpful.

“Ancient but Modern”
Reviewed September 12, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

This beautiful villa is based on a 200 year old farmhouse, we believe, but the conversion to a comfortable modern holiday property has been superb. There are 4 separate double en suite suites, one with a connecting twin-cot "nursery" and one with an adjoining (but separate) twin-bed room. All have air-conditioning. There is a large kitchen with top quality modern appliances, and all the bathrooms work equally well. There is ample dining space for 12 either indoors or outdoors. At the same time, partly because of the maturity of the buildings and surrounding gardens, and partly because of the tranquil location, the villa has a real air of peace and seclusion from the modern world. There are fabulous views from the gardens and pool area to spectacular surrounding mountain scenery. The English owners are next door, unobtrusive but constantly helpful and hospitable.

Thank you for your kind comments and so glad you had such a great time at Almond Hill House and enjoyed the peace, tranquility and views. We are also glad you enjoyed your morning cycling and the meal prepared at the house by the private chef. We would be delighted to welcome you back one day.

Also to note that we now have a fifth en suite bedroom.

“Beautiful restored farmhouse in idyllic setting”
Reviewed August 29, 2016 for a stay in August 2016

We stayed for 1 week as a family of 5, being joined in the second week by a family of 4.
Matt and Sarah were attentive but very discrete neighbours that left us an amazing welcome pack including produce from their land and homemade bread, biscuits, cava and chocolate milk. The olive oil is probably the best we have ever tasted.
The setting was beautiful and the pictures of the grounds do not do justice to the farmhouse. the pool was cleaned twice weekly so was in pristine condition with plenty of spots to soak up the sun or chill in the shade. The lawn was a bonus for playing boules and we were invited to pick the trees in the extensive grounds so had a glut of fresh figs and homemade lemonade.
As well as being in a secluded setting, it was easy to walk along the goat track into the nearby town Orgiva with local shops, restaurants and bars ( you do not need to set foot near a hyper market!) The walk takes approx 20mins- head torches advised for a nighttime stroll back.
The farmhouse itself has been sympathetically restored and is stunning- with all you would need.
We do not normally return to the same place, as life is too short, but we had a wonderful stay and would be very keen to visit again.
