“Muy Bien!”
Reviewed March 16, 2016 for a stay in March 2016

Firstly thanks to Robin for the welcome and helping with arrival to the wonderful village of Cañar.

Really cracking house and village - a big thanks to all in Bar Pique, which is a very friendly spot and really good value. I have travelled the length of the Costas and inland Spain, but have to say this was the most enjoyable and authentic stays I've had over the last 10-years. Robin's house is well kitted out and the views are amazing min from the bedroom and top of the house! The stars are beautiful and the hot tub was great to come back to after trekking on the GR7, up near the snow line in and around Bubion and Capileira.

A big thank you to the lovely lady in the shop, who always had a smile and who was patient with me when buying essentials and also to Senior Antonio :-)

The beaches are within easy reach...my favourites were Calahonda, La Herradura, Almuncecar and Maro near Nerja.

I would recommend Malagacar.com (tip from Robin), but be careful if you have to get to Malaga Airport during rush hour, as the traffic is a bit mad...also watch after coming off the MA20/21 on to the N340

PS: Robin cheers for the Rioja!

“A real slice of Spain”
Reviewed June 15, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We stayed in La Estrella within the small village of Canar.

The day we arrived we drove up the winding road wondering where it was taking us! Our Sat Nav took us to the car park which was handy and we met with Robin, our host.

Robin was friendly, knowledgable and always handy if required. After calling him he arrived to take us to the apartment which was a short distance away.

When we arrived at La Estrella, Robin gave us a quick tour and of the apartment and then offered to take us to the centre of the village. The village is very traditional in that, there is lots of narrow, winding streets so we were grateful he gave us some direction.

The village is very picturesque and quaint, there are two pubs and one small shop. We visited the shop on several occasions for a few bits and bobs but went to the neighbouring town Orgiva for the supermarket, as we we self catering. The area has lots of villages dotted amongst the hills, some nicer than others, some with more facilities than others, Orgiva was our least favourite, Capileira, which was recommended to us, by Robin, was simply beautiful.

Robin had recommended a restaurant in Capileira so we went along in the car one evening. The setting was peaceful, the service was good and the food was delicious! The village had some more pubs and places to eat than Canar and seemed to have a busy walking scene. We took the 25 min drive again on our last day for lunch as we had enjoyed it so much!

The highlights of our trip were definitely the fact the area felt like the 'real Spain' , the villages were well kept and peaceful, there was stunning views from La Estrella, La Estrella was modern but traditional at the same time and the farmers oranges being sold by the roadside on the way to Orgiva were amazing!

Having never been to Spain before, I feel my first visit was a unique experience and the real deal. If your looking for all day breakfasts and everything on your doorstep, it's not for you. If you want character and to immerse yourself into real Spanish life, it is!

“A ROAD LESS TRAVELLED...”

As a lone female traveller, I stayed for a week in Robin's renovated village town house before moving onto with friends to another of his properties, The Mill, a few kilometres away. Canar is in the heart of La Alpujarra.... far, far from the madding crowd. High in the Sierra Nevada, the scenery is breathtaking. Once I'd conquered my fear & sweaty palms, the narrow, hairpin bends & mountain roads became less daunting & I became much more adventurous, exploring the local area including tapas & beers. Robin & his friends were very welcoming - I was greeted with a freshly home baked loaf of bread & some vino. Throughout my month in Robin's properties, he maintained high standards of customer service... fresh laundry, trouble-shooting wherever necessary & generally being an all round great host. I'd definitely return for another taste of REAL Spain! Thanks Robin

Visited Canar with a group of friends and stayed in the top floor apartment of Casa Rif. Brilliant location in the heart of the tranquil village which was a perfect setting. The views are utterly spectacular which just adds to the therapeutic qualities of the place.
Great apartment with stunning roof terrace - equipped with delightful hot tub which cools in the day and warms in the evening !
The apartment is in great condition, contemporary but sympathetic décor and the perfect location for seeing the Alpujarra.
Generally pretty perfect.
