Almohalla 51 is an exquisite guesthouse in the small Andalucían town of Archidona, off the Malaga tourist trail and a world away from the tower blocks of the Costa del Sol (even though that's less than an hour away if you feel the urge!)

The owners, Myles and David are the perfect hosts; attentive, discreet and unfailingly helpful - arranging day trips (such as to Granada or Seville), suggesting the best local restaurants and generally making guests feel welcome and looked after over and above the norm. Bedrooms feature immaculate linen, iPod docks and generous bathrooms. Breakfast comes with a plentiful supply of fresh fruit, local olive oil, cheese and delicious fig jam. After sunning yourself in the town's main square you can return to base camp and continue soaking up the rays by the pool. But if it's chilly, the fire is always going and there's a stack of magazines, books and DVDs in the snug. Tea and coffee is available on tap and if you're lucky, still-warm-from-the-oven lemon cake in the afternoon. Later, the honesty bar is there if you fancy an aperitif.

Like the recent crop of boutique hotels and b&bs, Almolla 51 is stylish, mixing antiques with contemporary furnishings, intimate and restful but what sets it apart really is the thoughtful and charming owners. It's hard to recommend this place highly enough

This lovingly restored and beautifully furnished guesthouse is a real gem. It's located in a small village, slightly off the beaten tourist track, but perfectly located between the main attractions of Grenada, Cordoba and Seville. Miles and David are respectful and attentive hosts, on hand to help with any aspect of your stay, but also happy to retreat and leave you to curl up by the roaring fire (toasty in the winter) or soak up rays on the terrace (warm enough, even in December). The home cooked breakfasts were superb and the local eateries perfect for afternoon tapas with a glass of wine and there's enough local choice to mean you may never feel the need to head further afield. We'll definitely be going back.

I have just returned from a wonderful 5-night stay with David Matthews and Myles Rainford in their beautiful guest house/boutique hotel. I was visiting Andalucia on a kind of business trip. Archidona and Almohalla were my base for visits to other towns in the area. I also had a lot of work to do on my laptop in between. I couldn't have asked for a calmer environment, in which to wind down from my visits and to sit undisturbed, as I tapped away. David and Myles were brilliant. There, when I needed them (and I often did), but discretely inconspicuous, when I didn't. There was none of that "in your face" hospitality that small guest houses can often be guilty of. Frequently exhausted at the ends of my days, I only once had the energy to venture into town for my evening meal. Otherwise I ate "at home", which meant a delicious, varied, home-cooked 3-course meal every night - with wine included - and €20! On my last night I was even asked what I would like to eat, meat or fish? When told fish, I was asked what kind? Is that service or is that service? So that night it was cod steamed in honey and garlic. Yum (as the heroine of Julie and Julia exclaims)! Even one night, when I informed them at the very last minute that I would like to eat there, they managed to magic me up a pizza and goat's cheese salad. One can too easily forget the total meaning of the word "accommodation". It usually smacks of star-ratings, a bedside kettle, views and toilet facilities. But if one focuses for a moment on the other senses of the verb ("to provide with something desired, needed, or suited" and "to give consideration to") then Almohalla 51 is a perfect example of great "accommodation". So ditto all the other fantastic and well-deserved reviews, which David and Myles have already received and good luck to them for the future.

Room Tip: There are only 5 rooms and they are all beautiful. And the hotel is in a very quiet street.

David and Myles not only have a beautiful hotel, but are outstanding hosts and attentive to every detail. What I especially loved was their willingness to share their story and the quirks of the two houses they merged into a small boutique hotel. It's also a great jumping off point to other larger cities in the region. The place oozes Andalusian charm, and the hospitality second to none.

The perfect location to visit most of the sights of eastern Andalucia. Myles and David are excellent hosts and have created an oasis for their guests. The hotel offers modern amenities but is authenthic in the styles of southern Spain. Excellent breakfasts were created each morning using the best of the produce from market day. Enjoy watching the sun set over the valley from the patio. Easy access to town center which boast of a most unique town plaza. You won't regret staying here.

Having seen pictures of this beautiful hotel, I knew that I had to come and visit. What a perfect place to stay. It sits on a quiet residential street in the charming town of Archidona against a backdrop of pine trees. From the minute we arrived it was clear that this was no ordinary hotel. Every room has been lovingly crafted to create a stylish but homely atmosphere - beautiful and perfectly placed pictures, comfortable furnishings and thoughtful details. David and Myles are the most genial hosts, attentive and welcoming with a great passion for and knowledge of Andalucia.

The breakfasts were practically a work of art - fresh fruit, manchego cheese, serrano ham, home made fig jam, delicious bread, olive oil followed by perfectly cooked eggs (any way we wanted) and pots of fresh tea and coffee. All served with care and beautifully presented.

The whole impression was really one of being welcomed into someone's cherished home. The sitting room has a range of books, magazines, cds and dvds for you to use. You can sit by the stove fire with a glass of wine and listen to the logs crackle. On the last night we just curled up on the sofa under a blanket and watched films, having exhausted ourselves with the sights of Antequera, Cordoba and Grenada during our stay.

Another lovely touch was a home-cooked meal on that final night - most welcome after a day touring the Alhambra. A vibrant bowlful of the nicest carrot soup I've ever eaten and a casserole of chicken, peppers and a tasty dish of wild, brown and white rice.

I can't recommend Almohalla 51 highly enough. Go and visit, I promise you will be enchanted.
