Six of us had an excellent Xmas / Sunday meal after spending 4 hours walking the countryside in the pouring rain ! We had a variety of starters between us , all perfectly cooked, presented and enjoyed. The nut roast was one of the best I've tasted. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. Can't wait for a return visit !

Following a lukewarm welcome the menu/specials appeared promising. A shared starter of garlic mushrooms was insipid and flavourless. A main course of belly of pork was frankly appaling - the accompanying sauce was vile and congealed, the pork dry and overcooked, the vegetables overcooked and roast potatoes clearly previously cooked and reheated- the entire ensemble frankly inedible. The staff did not seem particularly bothered when clearing away a pretty much full plate of uneaten food. Attention to detail was sadly lacking - is it too much to expect a fingerbowl with moules mariniere? Suffice to say we shall not return.

The new regime in place since December 2013 has seen a huge improvement in style of food and quality of service available at The Giants Rest. Well done to Kathy and Christophe.
Keep up your great work : it is good to see your pub becoming a local in Wilmington again. We have visited several times over your first year - both as a couple, with family and with walkers.
It helps if you really enjoy the overtones of French cuisine : which we do ~ and I cannot get enough of your Soupe de Poisson (which takes me back to holidays in Provence every times it arrives at the table!)
But, please, do reintroduce Rouille Sauce as an option with that soup, as it is a personal preference to aioli
The menu has been revived and at times still needs some further changes to keep each visit fresh and memorable. Great Sunday roasts : especially the sumptuous Churchwood Dexter joint enjoyed recently.
Your service and welcome is friendly and appropriate. Your food is tasty and arrives hot and fresh to the table. The atmosphere in the bar is different every time we come : and we are really looking forward to a Christmas lunch with you soon!

On a cold but bright, sunny Saturday my husband and I went for a long walk along the bottom of the South Downs and as a reward stopped at The Giants Rest. What a good decision that was!
The staff are very friendly, there's locally brewed beer, a welcoming log fire and a good choice of food which is freshly cooked and reasonably priced.
This was our first visit to this pub but it definitely won't be our last! We are already planning a long walk over the Christmas period with some friends, knowing that everyone will enjoy the experience of eating and drinking at this pub.
Definitely worth the walk!

Locally brewed beer, cosy log fires, a good choice of food and friendly hosts, our party of eight felt well-looked after. The puzzles on the tables are a nice touch and we were able to park easily. Ours was an evening visit but it's perfect for a relaxing lunch too.
