One of the last strongholds of the cathares. spectacular setting right on the edge of the pyrenees in the arriege. don't miss it, but make sure you have your hiking boots and don't suffer from vertigo. Research the history it's well worth it

Interesting historical visit, even though there's not much left of the castle itsel. It's quite a hike up to the top of the 'pog' but on a clear, sunny day the views are some of the most spectacular that we have ever experienced. Take a picnic, settle down and enjoy the fiew from the hill top.

After a 15/20mins walk up to the castle, you have the rewarding experience of being in a place which is full of history and the final stand of the Cathar resistance against the Catholic crusade. We would advise to take part in the 1-hour free tour which really gives you a feel for what happened on this site (tour is only in French). Brilliant experience!!

The mountain top setting and the slightly eery feeling of what happened there in 1244 are the main attractions of this castle. The views are wonderful, and you'll get loads of good photos on a sunny day. The chateau itself is ruined, so there's not that much of it to see. The walk to the top is quite steep on uneven steps, and the day we went there were lots of people going very slowly, so that was a bit of a pain. There are not toilet facilities and no drinks to be bought, so be prepared. It is a really good visit, but I'm comparing it with Peyrepertuse, which we found to be a bit more interesting, relatively accessible and even more spectacular.

This was the simplest, yet most crowded of the Cathar castles we visited. Knowing a bit about the tragic history of the place really adds a lot to the experience. The climb to the top will take about a half hour and is quite steep. We went on a very hot day and with all the other tourists the going was quite slow. Still the views were marvelous and quite unique compared to the other castles we visited.

Note that there are no bathrooms at or around the castle, which is odd and somewhat annoying.
