Tucked away down a side street the hotel was a little hard to find even for the tuk tuk driver from the bus station, which was only a few hundred meters away. The hotel is only about one year old and probably not yet on everyone’s radar. It is clean and modern well run by mine host Simon a Dutch guy. He comes from a baking background and this shows up in the delicious breads and pizzas that are come out of his ovens fresh every day.

There are only nine rooms set around a courtyard with a swimming pool. The rooms have all mod cons, hot shower, air conditioning, TV and free Wifi. The rooms are serviced every day and are in spotless condition. The only problem for light sleepers were the dogs in surrounding properties that like to have long conversations during the night. A cooked breakfast was included in the price.

It is worth a visit to the hotel if only to eat at the restaurant which, along with the delicious in house pizzas, serves a large range of Thai and Western food, try the pork chop with pepper sauce.

I can say no higher than if I were to visit Burriram again I would certainly stay at the Muang Pizza & Resort.

We arrived in Buriram by train, and figured Muang Pizza and Resort was a convenient base to explore the temples of Phanom Rung. It is located in a narrow street between the old and new city near the bus station. Please note the tuk tuk drivers at the train station didn't know the address even though we had it written in Thai. It is best to have someone call the hotel and explain the way. In front of the place is a large parking, behind which you enter the restaurant. Behind the restaurant is a cosy square with terrace and large swimming pool. The latter is covered with a screen during the day to provide shade. Behind the swimming pool and on top of the restaurant are the hotel rooms. The whole place is brand new and very tidy and clean. The rooms are very spacious and have flat-screen tv, refridgerator and airco. We got a large extra bed that fitted both our children. There is free wi-fi everywhere. The hotel was fully booked during our stay in late July and several of the other guests were families. Upon arrival we were welcomed by Simon, the Dutch owner, and his Thai wife. They were very friendly and helpful. Simon arranged us a trip to Phanom Rung and Prasat Hin Muang Tum with a kind English speaking lady for 1500 baht (about 1 h drive one way and 2 h visit). When I got ill, Simon and his wife drove me to the hospital and accompanied me all the way! Simon has travelled a great deal in Asia and I enjoyed talking with him about his experiences.

The restaurant serves good pizza's (they have a real oven) and pastas, a number of meat dishes including Australian steak, but also Thai food. It is frequented by Thai, tourists and expats. For bread affectionados like us it is noteworthy that the restaurant bakes and sells its own bread, a relief from the defrosted industrial stuff we got elsewhere. Also noteworthy is that they have good wines and Heineken.

I would highly recommend staying in Muang Pizza and resort when visiting the Phanom Rung historical park. We especially appreciated the hospitality.

A real gem in an ideal location. Professional management with super effecient staff. The spacious, well equipped rooms with luxury bathrooms, cable TV and free Wifi were immaculate -and all overlooking a beautiful swimming pool. A busy and vibrant restaurant, car parking and genuine hospitality made it the perfect hotel for our family and friends. Will definitely return.

Room tip: All the rooms are similar in size / design - however 6 of the 9 are up a short flight of stairs.
