Description: At the Black Oystercatcher Restaurant, we live by the season. We serve fresh produce that grows in our own garden as the seasons dictate. As a result, we offer a fresh dining experience, set in a relaxed country atmosphere. Here fresh food, complimenting our boutique wines, is prepared to order and enjoyed at leisure. The seasons also determine the mood at this Cape Agulhas restaurant: the refreshing sea breeze will cool you down in summer, or enjoy our cozy log fires in the winter months.

Although it is a long way to travel for lunch from Arniston, we thoroughly enjoyed our outing to the restaurant. The place was really buzzing and we were lucky we had booked in advance. Because of this the service was not as good as it should have been. The food was tasty and we had a pleasant day out.

Another lucky "by chance" that we ended up at this winery on our way to Cape Agulhas (the southern most tip of Africa). Our hosts were Dirk Human and his lovely wife. Their 15 year old son helped serve, making him no stranger to this family tradition and the running of its operation. The wines that Dirk and his family have produced are spectacular. The Sauvignon Blanc had hints of tropical fruits and was simply a wonderful and unexpected surprise. The crown however goes to "Triton" a Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon that seemed to encapsulate the entire richness of this wine region at the southern tip of Africa.
The amazing thing is that the wine is sufficient to call this location "Excellent" in its own right, but the food by itself, is trying to lay claim to that title. The steak was by far (very far) the best meat we have tasted in a long time. As Dirk explained, the animals are grass feed and one can taste the difference with every bite. (The problem is that after visiting the Black Oystercatcher we tried (in vain) to get a similar high quality meat throughout our trip .... alas everyone fell short).

Should we be so lucky to visit South Africa again, we will plan a special "out of the way" trip and excursion to visit the Black Oystercatcher again. The recommendation goes way beyond a simply it's good & go there. We believe that it is worthy of special planning, to be included in everyone's South African travel itinerary.

We were told we had to stop at the Black Oystercatcher on our way from Cape Agulhas to Stanford. What good advice that was. We didn't have time for a meal but their tapas looked just delectable and very fresh. We bought great tasting wine. Friendly staff. The venue is just stunning and will be a definite stop for us along with a meal - next time!

A great place for lunch - the location is very relaxing with beautiful views of the surrounding farmland areas. Only a few miles from the sea. Good food and excellent local wines at reasonable prices. A lovely place for Sunday lunch.
