“Well-located, well equipped”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

We have just come back from a week at the lodge hemera. The lodge is very well located in the centre of the village. The apartments are very well equipped and the building has everything you could need. We have thoroughly enjoyed our week of luxury - warm ski boots in the morning, sauna, hammam, jacuzzi after a hard days skiing. We arrived very late on the 1st day but our key was waiting for us. The only downsides - flats at the front get the road noise I.e. Snowploughs clearing the road early in the morning but it was minimal tbh. And because we arrived late I am not sure we were given all the info we could have been given I.e. Parking, village events for the week, instructions for when we leave etc. but otherwise a great week had by all and we would definitely go back.

We have just returned from a weeks visit to La Rosiere where we stayed in the Hemera Lodge. The accommodation is simply fantastic. The apartments are spacious and fabulously equipped. The swimming pool and spa areas are luxurious (albeit the pool temperature could have been higher). La Rosiere is fairly small, a couple of tips though; 1. You will need to make reservations for the local restaurants (sometimes a few nights in advance), 2. Bring plenty of Euros as there is only 1 ATM and it was out of commission for 3 days during our visit. We used Evolution 2 ski school and found them to be excellent, instructors were bi-lingual and our 3 year old was at complete ease with the instructors. We will definitely be back next year. Enjoy your stay!

We stayed at the Hemera Lodge in December 2012 - it's first season. The staff were lovely, La Rosiere is a good family ski destination and the property is nice enough but it was totally mis-sold to us - hence the poor rating. We booked through Crystal Ski and made them aware of our complaints. They have offered us compensation after the holiday (but we can only benefit from this if we book another holiday with them). But, in case it's useful to anyone, here's the problems we encountered - I do hope that, one year on, such things will have been rectified.
1. Our Apartment, A02, was in the basement of Hemera Lodge and had not been finished to a 4* standard despite being sold at a 4* price. It had exposed, unfinished electrical sockets in the en suite bathroom, in close proximity to water and holes in the kitchen wall above the electric socket next to the sink. We had young children in the apartment and had to take great care. The holiday rep saw these sockets and admitted it was unacceptable and he was going to ask that no more Crystal clients be put into that apartment.
2. Our Apartment in Hemera Lodge was sold to us as having ""spectacular views of the Tarentaise valley" Apartment A02 does not have any views. All the windows face a wall. The rep, came to look at our "views" (a wall) and admitted it was unacceptable and he was going to ask that no more Crystal clients be put into that apartment and that he was going to lodge a report stating that fact.
3. Our Apartment in Hemera Lodge was sold to us as having "doorstep skiing at the foot of the slopes" and being "2 minutes walk to the lift". This is simply not true. When carrying skis, with snow on the ground, it is a good 10/15 minute walk to the lift - along a road, across a car park and then up some steps. All do-able - just not what we thought we'd booked.

If you go knowing what to expect, or don't end up in the basement, Hemera Lodge would no doubt be a good base for a family ski holiday. Certainly the French staff on reception were very nice and we liked getting fresh croissants and baguettes delivered every morning. La Rosiere lived up to its reputation for sun and snow - it's a great village for family skiing. Although be warned - if going with a package deal your coach transfer from the airport can be very slow.

Room Tip: This is not a ski in/ski out property. Rooms in the basement are handy for the ski lockers but you w...

Overall, Lodge Hemera was very good. The previous reviewer alluded to some teething troubles, which continued to be evident during our stay, but this did not detract greatly from our excellent holiday.
The village is a great place to stay, and the skiing is safe and varied. Some good places to eat, but not a cheap place to stay.
We were upgraded to a 2 bed unit in the Belvedere Chalet. It was nicely furnished, and a contemporary design – I think we were the first guests to use it. Although it sleeps up to 6 (there are 2 bedrooms, and a convertible sofa), it would be quite cramped if fully occupied, and there were not enough ‘comfy’ seats to accommodate 6.
Bedrooms: Excellent. The double bed was very comfortable, and the bedding was sufficient and of good quality, as were the towels. The twin beds appeared to be of similar design. There was adequate storage in both rooms, although access to the double room was a little awkward. It could have benefitted from some drawer space.
Bathrooms: Excellent. Good quality shower, with plenty of hot water delivered with a good flow. The ‘family’ bathroom had a small bath with shower over, and there was a separate toilet (although no sink). Each loo had 1 (small) toilet roll, but this is perfectly acceptable for a self-catering unit.
Living area: Very good. A comfortable sofa, chair and stool; and a modern flat screen TV. A DVD player was available to borrow from reception at no cost, but was not included as standard – I had to leave a credit card as a deposit, which they forgot to give back when we checked out. A bizarre arrangement, which has meant I have had to cancel my card!
Kitchen/Dining area: Good. The dining chairs were a bit firm and cramped, but otherwise fine. There was a good selection of appliances, including a combi oven/microwave, dishwasher and halogen hob. A nice touch was a box of useful consumables, although only 2 bin bags. The microwave was positioned a bit too high, above the fridge.
The underground car park initially seemed expensive at e60, but with a couple of massive dumps of snow, it was a boon to be able to get into a snow/ice free car having put on the snow chains (essential if you plan to drive to La Rosiere) in the dry.
Spa: Excellent. A large Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and fitness area, make a very competent leisure area. The pool area was also impressive and spacious, although the temperature could have been a bit higher.
Issues: Heating comprises of under floor heating, supplemented by electric wall panel heaters. The temperature is controlled centrally, and you need to ask reception to make any changes, although there is some flexibility on the wall panels. This is OK if a bit inconvenient. However, only about 1/3 of our under floor heating was working, and the panels in the living area did not come on at all, despite being reported a couple of times! This left us a bit chilly in the evening, so we had to snuggle under the spare duvet – not too bad!
The connecting doors to the main building closed with a bang on every occasion, so the rooms on level -2 should be avoided until they sort out the closers. On two occasions we got stuck in the lift when going to the -5 car park level – I eventually moved the car to another level. We experienced the chalky residue on some walls, mentioned in the previous review – the walls could do with another coat of paint to rectify the problem.
There is still work going on in some of the apartments – nothing obtrusive, but you will meet up with painters etc from time to time. Also, some of the final finishing in the less important areas (e.g. the boot room) is not complete.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms linking the two buildings on floor B -2, as the connecting fire doors and lift were very...

our friends booked this 2 bedroom apartment for a weeks skiing in La Rosiere
It was the 2nd week it was open after refurb/new build?
some teething problems.
but very nice and spacious place to stay
very clean, modern, nicely decorated. bed very comfortable
right in the centre of town

reception area shuts at different times in the day, so when we arrived late on saturday night, we had to hunt for the key to our room!

receptionist were helpful and spoke good english

spa area very modern and clean, although we didnt get to use it

teething problems (walls were all whitewashed and the paint/dust was coming off on our clothes when we brushed past the walls or hung our ski wear up! - lots of dust in the walkways/floors - ice was not taken off outside steps to boot room - despite us asking them numerous times - rubber mats were being placed all around to stop people slipping over) I am sure all these teething problems will be sorted.

oh, - dont forget toilet paper! there is one roll in each bathroom when you arrive, but you then need to buy more - they dont provide or sell this - also you need washing up liquid etc

despite all the above, we would stay there again
