Hotel Osteria Dell'Orcia
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 24, 2014

We had a great time here. The location is exceptional, within motoring distance of many famous tuscan towns. The staff at the hotel were friendly and professional. The food was excellent and we loved the fact that we could walk to the extremely picturesque village of Bagno Vignoni have dinner or a drink there and were encouraged to do so. We would highly recommend this Osteria.

This hotel is a former 16century post office and whilst one is unable to buy stamps one is able to enjoy the stunning surroundings, fabulous garden and pool. Osteria dell'Orcia is a welcoming place Silvano and his co host Ferdinando provide a warm friendly welcome both of whom speak a dazzling array of languages including excellent English. Silvano's wife Eilana is the main chef and her pasta is to die for! Whilst the Menu is not extensive the range of pasta, soups, lamb, beef and fish is fine. The restaurant is not cheap €18 for a main course, the wine list is extensive and expertly selected. Rooms are comfortable if not on the smaller side. There are only approx 16 rooms some in the main house others in an annex. Breakfast is good. If you want a quiet location with Bagno Vignoni close and Pienza only 20 minutes away, then this hotel is a good location. I stayed here on my own for 6 nights and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. I have been travelling to Italy for nearly 20 years and I really enjoyed the ambiance of this hotel. I shall return!

Room Tip: I stayed in rm 26 but try 25 or 32 which overlooks the back of the hotel. All have aircon.

This hotel sits in the most beautiful valley! Owner was very helpful and kind. (Something we didn't always experience on our trip.) He even suggested we walk to a nearby hamlet for dinner...instead of trying to sell the hotel food. Room was nice and spacious. Service was exceptional!

Just returned from four nights. Owners Silvano and Ferdinando welcomed us to their beautifully restored inn as if we were old friends. Our room was well appointed with beautiful views of the grounds and Bagno Vignoni beyond. The breakfast which is included was the nicest we had in our two week trip with fresh squeezed juice, homemade cakes and pastries, fresh fruit, meats and cheeses. The location provides a great base for touring Tuscany. Silvano set us up for a tour of Nostra Vita Vineyard where winemaker and artist Annibale provided a memorable experience. Would highly recommend Osteria Dell Orcia!

We only stayed one night at Osteria Dell'Orcia and everything was just as it should be.

We received a very warm welcome and were shown to our rooms which were comfortable and fresh with their own seating areas outside. We decided to eat in the restaurant and were not disappointed. The food was excellent and our waiter (I feel bad I didn't catch his name) spoke excellent English. He was very engaging and explained about the produce that was used and the local area.

I felt as if we were among friends, even if we'd only just met.

A summertime visit is on my "to do" list.

We just loved our time at Dell'Orcia and regretted not being able to stay longer. Silvano was an impeccable host, greeted us at our car, offered wine and sat with us as we got acquainted. Our room was beautifully appointed, luxurious linens and a lovely bathroom. We used the pool - a little cold (!) but lovely, and the grounds were inviting and well maintained. Our dinner was excellent and service was fabulous. The region has several lovely towns - if you are planning time in Pienza, Montepulciano or even Montalcino (a little farther away), this would be a good location. We felt pampered and special. We would stay again, and stay longer. This is an intimate specialized property offering peaceful and quiet respite in the Orcia Valley. If you are looking for a ton of night life, this is not the place.

Room Tip: Our room was plenty large and lovely. We were on the back of the building looking up into the hills...
