Lovely old hotel restored from an old farmhouse. Our stay was in a great location to explore Tuscany. Hotel was clean, comfortable, and pleasing to the eye. Food was OK, breakfast was continental, with the usual cheese slices, salami, ham slices, croissants, bread, fruit, cereal etc. Room was comfortable, OK in size, although shower was fairly tight , but when you are only spending a short time in the hotel, it's not that important. I would have no hesitation in going back again. The only not so good thing about the hotel was the size and choice in the bar. A special thank you to Dino, who never tired of helping us with his knowledge of the area and was excellent throughout our stay. Overall I would give this place 4 out of 5, perhaps some wouldn't, guess it depends on how particular you are. I loved it and would certainly return.

Room Tip: Probably best to have a room at the back of the hotel, as at the front is a main road, even though t...

There was nothing wrong with the very nice restored farmhouse, the swimming pool, the quiet environment and the good location for trips to all the famous cities as Siena.
The showercabine was far to small (such a stupid steamcabine), no real bar (depending of front desk personel to get some drinks from the restaurant) and the swimming pool closes at 19:00. But worst of all was the chaotic service in the restaurant and the bad breakfast buffet: poor choice dry bread, cold scrambled eggs, sometimes fruit or yoghurt.Staff was more busy with themselves in stead of taking care of the clients.
Laundry service was not 24 hours but stuff was brought back spread over 3 days !
There was a 4-star sign but I would give it a 3-star max.

This place is a nicely remodeled old farmhouse with lovely rustic rooms, AC, modern bathrooms (some with bathtubs, others only showers), a refreshing pool and lovely grounds to sit and relax.

Downsides are their restaurant in general (not cheap at as other pretend to say, the primi are reasonable but why to pay 5€ for "contorni"? I'm sure there will be more surprises on the "conto" as e.g. "pane e coperato" 4€/person (not on menu) or only bottles wines available? - usual tricks of restaurants to overcharge....

Another downside is their breakfast compared to other (even cheaper) hotels we stayed on this trip: Salami from Lidl, the cheapest pressed ham (no “crudo), only the Tuscan salt-less bread and the coffee “Americano” they offered tasted like water – cappuccino to order but not much better....

Average service limited English, personell smokes more outside than they work. Also remember that you need to pay 3€/day/device for Internet and 2€/towel at the pool if you don't bring your own from home. The hydro showers are absolutely too tiny (for kids only?). The road you can't hear much (which is a plus)

However I can recommend this place only for short overnight stays even the rates are very low (around 50-60€)

For dinner I recommend to drive 20mins down the highway to Paganico and visit "Il Castelluccio" or even better but also a bit more expensive "3 cantoni" on the road to Arcidosso

Room Tip: standard rooms have only tiny shower

La Locanda del Ponte has received mixed reviews, and we were a little concerned before going, but we need not have worried. The rooms were delightful, the staff very caring and the grounds really splendid. The ruined bridge on the river which you can see from the gardens is part of the old Sienna-Rome road, and the hotel is an old coaching inn which dates back to 1600. It has been tastefully modernised - although we missed some modern touches like a balcony to sit out on and to dry towels. The hotel occupies several buildings, and it is a winding walk to the pool, but the gardens around the pool are very tranquil. The restaurant staff try very hard (although the breakfasts are really unimaginative), but we ate at the hotel next door several evenings because the food was perhaps a little more interesting, and we could sit out and watch the sunset over the hills. It's a very good base for exploring the local towns, as it is on the Sienna-Grosetto road, but we were not much bothered by traffic noise. So don't be concerned about this hotel - it is lovely.

We came here as part of our honeymoon and spent a wonderful week here!
Our room was spacious and immaculately clean.
The staff were all a little vague but helpful. The breakfast was good, although could have been improved with fresh fruit.
The pool area was lovely and on the days we decided to relax at the hotel we very much enjoyed the pool area. It is by a main road that you can hear out by the pool but we never found it excessively noisy and in the rooms if you close the shutters at night you can't hear a thing! (Nor see a thing, we slept soooo soundly actually thinking that our alarm was wrong as it still seemed like the middle of the night in our room, only to open the shutters to bright glorious sunshine!)
The main road is perfect for Siena, Florence, Pisa, Lucca, San Gimignano etc. although I would say that there are no local shops for snacks etc, so would be best to stock up those when out for the day.
My only real slight grumbles was €3 a day for Internet per person (ie we had to pay €3 for each of our phones on the days we wanted it.)
I would definitely stay here again and whilst I think it's probably a 3* rather than 4* I was very happy with my stay.
I would recommend for independent couples and groups of friends. Not for children or elderly (due to lack of lifts).

We booked this hotel through booking.com for a one week stay in Tuscany, with no refund option. The price was a bit higher than in comparing places, but we booked it, expecting to stay in a traditional villa sort of place, as the hotel's website hints. We were quite disappointed to see that the hotel is actually located right at the main road between Siena and Grosetto, no locally owned villa but rather a motel-ish sort of place built in mock Tuscan-villa style. Traffic is indeed very heavy, so don't expect a quiet, idyllic holiday in Tuscan landscape. The hotel itself was nice, room (standard) was quite charming, clean, aircon worked ok. The staff are very very nice and helpful. Breakfast: good coffee (need to order it specially, though), brioches were ok. We dined in the hotel restaurant on our first evening there, and thought that it was ok - but in comparison to other restaurants we tried later, it was below average. Also, the restaurant has limited opening hours (check at the reception) and make sure to book in advance as it gets quite full from what we've seen. The pool area was nice and relatively empty - there were moments when we had the pool basically for ourselves.

Again, I need to emphasize that the staff really are extremely nice and go the extra mile to make sure that guests feel good. One night, they prepared a happy hour at the pool, trying to set up the mood for a party - it turned out quite nice.

We ended up having a very nice stay as we basically spent only late afternoons and nights in the hotel, otherwise travelling around - and location is actually very good for one day trips in central and southern Tuscany.

We'd stay here again for a night or two, definitely not for longer stays.

Positives: staff, clean hotel, good parking, pool area, good location to travel this part of Tuscany (Siena, Massa, Cortona, San Giminiano...).

Negatives: the hotel is located at the main road, not reccomended for longer holidays.

The positives:

The hotel does have a rustic charm and the river and ponte make an interesting outlook. I'm not sure if any if the rooms look out over the river as our "superior room" was like a cave on the ground floor with no view at all, but its possible the rooms on the first floor might have. The swimming pool is a nice area to relax and they serve beers, cold drinks and snacks.

The negatives:

Where it start. The hotel is definitely not a four star so don't even begin to think that's what you're going to get, it's two at best. As I mentioned the pool is nice but what is conveniently overlooked on the Laconda website is the main road that runs 50yards to the front of the hotel, so if you're able to relax in the pool whilst trucks thunder past then good luck to you. And the trucks and traffic run all night so don't expect to sleep soundly.

The breakfast is pretty shoddy, there's packets of toast (seriously), boiled eggs and croissants, and canteen coffee and squash as opposed to fruit juice. Not worth getting out of bed for.

We booked through Booking.com. As we were staying for a friends wedding nearby I thought I would make it extra special and splash out on the superior room upgrade, sold so beautifully with pictures of a large room with views and a bathroom with hydro bath and shower. When we arrived to check in the lady on the desk was friendly and gave us our room key. However, once we got to the room our hearts sank to find a pokey little thing with just a shower room straight out of a 1950s hospital. We went back to the main desk and said this can't possibly be a superior room, to which the lady immediately agreed and got the manager. What followed was a pathetic bit of theatre as the manager pretended there was some issue with the confirmation booking.com had sent him and that they had thought we had booked a standard room. I know this was rubbish as what had actually happened was the manager didn't like the fact we'd booked through booking.com as opposed to their website direct as this had meant they had to pay commission, so he'd tried to fob us off with a standard room. The manager tossed us the keys to a new "superior room", but didn't show us to it as he was well aware it was far from good. The room was on the ground floor, as dark as a cave and no bigger than the previous bar the addition of a small single bed in an entrance room with no windows.

Upon check in we had also been asked to notify well in advance if we wanted to eat in the restaurant, so we booked a table for that night. Arriving at the two thirds empty restaurant there was great confusion from the waiting staff who had no booking for us, and who begrudgingly sat us in a corner. The head waiter, a contemptible grey haired man spent the next twenty minutes stomping back and forth, tutting, rolling his eyes and looking extremely annoyed. It was utterly ridiculous and we could not believe that as paying customers we were being treated like this. After twenty minutes menus were brought to us. We waited another half hour to order, were never asked if we would like drinks and indeed were never brought any, and when the food finally came the rissotto was a watery gruel dispassionately slopped on the plate and the pasta I ordered looked like it had been crisped under hot lights for the last hour. There was no way we were going to say anything to the waiter, not unless I was in the mood for a punch up as he seemed like he was ready to snap at any moment, so without a word and with untouched plates still on the table we left.

The rest of our three day stay went well and I saw the manager on several occasions. It wasn't until check out that things turned nasty. The manager printed our bill and slapped it in front of us. On top of the room he had also charged us for the meal on the first night. I informed the manager that we didn't eat the meal, that the restaurant was a disgrace, the service appalling and that we had voted with our feet and left without even touching our meals. What followed was one of the ugliest scenes I have ever witnessed as a customer of an establishment. The manager shouted at us, tore up our receipt, was rude to us, started slapping the desk in an attempt to intimidate us to pay for the meal. In light of the fact that the meal was €20 and we had already paid €300 for the three nights we were utterly gobsmacked that the manager of a hotel would even contemplate behaving like this.

In summary, there's far too much competition out there to contemplate staying here. Completely overpriced, dreadful manager, dreadful hotel, dreadful position next to a main road and not even that convenient for getting around the local area. Definitely seek out an alternative hotel.
