Description: The Osteria del Leone, as documents testify, has always been part of the life of this ancient village. Located in one of the town’s oldest houses on the corner of Via dei Mulini and the square with the thermal pool, it has four welcoming, hospitable rooms and an enclosed garden, able to seat a total of 70 people. The restaurant is characterized by a large entrance area with an antique bar, followed by three comfortable, brightly-colored rooms decorated with local nineteenth-century furniture and spacious, well-appointed tables set a reasonable distance apart, accommodating up to 40 people. In the summer, a pleasant inside garden, cool, well-kept, and protected from the elements, can hold another 30 people. The menu features flavorful typical Tuscan cooking and changes more or less monthly to keep up with the changing seasons, but always maintaining some “classics,” local specialties like the hand-rolled long strands of pasta called “pici,” served for example with garlic sauce, or perfectly grilled Florentine beefsteak, according to some connoisseurs among the best in the area. A variety of goat’s-milk and sheep’s-milk Tuscan cheeses and homemade desserts, accompanied by a nice selection of dessert wines and liqueurs, bring the meal to a close. The wine list contains about 250 labels, with a broad selection of the best Tuscan wines. Montalcino and Montepulciano are well-represented, of course, but other fine Italian wines are not neglected; all the wines can also be bought in the nearby Enoteca del Leone. The staff is very courteous, young and pleasantly informal.

“Good food, nice courtyard, a bit overwhelmed by a large group”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

I love Bagno Vignoni and the concierge at Lucignello d'Asso had recommended this restaurant. We were 12 so a large group for a small restaurant. We ordered 2 courses and the food was good if a bit slow. The food is traditional with a reasonable choice on the menu. The meals were well cooked and the wine list was reasonable. The service people were good but tended to disappear out the front to the bar, leaving us alone in the courtyard. Overall an njoyable meal but restaurant is probably better suited to smaller groups.

“A very enjoyable experience.”

The service was friendly and well timed, the staff was knowledgable and attentive, the food was nicely presented and was excellent...this would be a 5 for the food...it was so good that I ate there twice...unusual for me...and the food was just a good, if not a bit better, the second time; first night...tripe with pecorino on toast and pasta with truffles...second night...tartare on a very fine cheese, pici with mushrooms, pigeon done perfectly.

“Stunning location and wonderful food”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Nestled in the beautiful old Roman spa of Bagno Vignoni the owner of our hotel in San Giovanni D'Asso inisted on driving us to this, one of his favorite restaurants (excluding his own of course). We weren't disappointed - a wonderful menu, we entrusted the wine selection to the waiter and enjoyed an fantastic meal. Well worth the effort to get there - one place we would definitely go back to - and next time stay in the village.

“Highly recommended!”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

We had a lovely lunch in the internal garden of this restaurant last week. The location is great - just off the heart of the village (the pool) and the ambiance is charming: there are two or three fairly small rooms and a large internal garden which is a delight. The weather was fine and we sat outside in the garden. After aperitifs we had a pasta dish with cream of fava beans (delicious) followed by steak tartar with olives and capers (delicious) and each of us had a different desert all of which were good; accompanied by a nice bottle of white wine. When the bill arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find that the price-quality was just right. Service very pleasant and professional.
