We rented an 'ensuite' cabin here, which turned out to be a little house with living area, real kitchen with stove, refrigerator and cooking equiipment, bedroom, and bathroom with shower. The decor was old-fashioned, but basically clean and comfortable. It was quiet here and near a couple of nice trails to walk along the lake. There were a couple of cafes within walking distance. Staff was friendly, wi-fi was free in the lounge area. They had other types of accommodation including standard cabins, backpacker lodging, etc.
Someone said in a review here that they didn't open the windows in New Zealand because there are no screens, but the reason there are no screens is that most areas have no biting bugs. The worst bugs are the sand flies which are not active at night, so it is usually ok to open your windows at night to cool things down for sleeping (and it does get cool at night on the South Island, even in the summer).More
