We had a quick lunch here before walking round the lake. The famous Fish Inn was closed but this was an excellent alternative. Right in the middle of the village (though you have to pay for parking), this is a real pub - i.e. unpretentious and dog-friendly where muddy walkers can come without feeling out of place (they even have a drying room). Lots of local ales. The food came quickly and was excellent - a prawn sandwich and generous salad with a basket of real HAND CUT chips - not the tasteless frozen things you find everywhere else. An excellent start to our afternoon in Buttermere.

Dear Manchestersherlock,

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to us. I am delighted to read that you enjoyed your lunch. The hand cut chips are very time consuming (I am sure you can imagine how many we use daily!) but they are indeed much better than any we have tried already prepared, I am happy your appreciated them!

Just as a note for future visits, we have our own car park that is to the right of the Hotel and as a patron of the pub or hotel you are very welcome to park for free during your stay, please do make use of this in future.

Yours Sincerely

Steven

What a fantastic break this was. We arrived Christmas Eve and spent three wonderful nights over Christmas, fantastic location, service, food was to die for brilliant and all very reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this Hotel, to anyone who wants a peaceful break in a fantastic location, with fine food dining. Thank you again to all of the staff. Brian

Dear helenabrian,

Today I have had the pleasure of replying to 9 very positive reviews of the Christmas period!!!! It is such a wonderful read having just returned from a week away to recover some of the spent energy!

It was a pleasure to be able to welcome everyone over what was a fantastic 3 days with good people and I can only hope we have as many of them return this year! At times like this it is the guests that make the Hotel and not the other way round.

Thank you again

We stayed here purely by chance on an unplanned visit to the Lakes. Initially we thought it was only self catering apartments - there are some adjoining. We could have not been more pleasantly surprised. We ended up in a better room at a very good rate that included dinner.
Staff are superb, friendly, good humoured and very efficient. The whole place runs like clockwork but in a relaxed manner. Room was excellent - bath and walk in shower. Nicely furnished (pedants will always find fault) spotlessly clean with all the facilities. No TV (signal problem). However if you come to the lakes for TV.......Food was excellent, imaginative and well presented without being too fussy (and of course delicious). Good choices. Breakfast equally good and set you up for the day. The hotel also has an excellent bar where you can have bar meals and chill out. The hotel's lounge is very comfortable with big sofas -lovely to sink into after along walk and excellent dinner.
All in all an lovely place to stay in a great location. For the price, quality, comfort and location outstanding value for money.

Room Tip: Location is quiet so room location not always an issue. Some rooms have better views than others. Ro...

I was looking for a few days of absolute relaxation, stress free from start to finish. This was my first visit to the Bridge Hotel, which I could not fault. My bedroom was very comfortable and quiet. The location needs no fanfare from me; Buttermere is as 'away from it all' as you can get in England. And, the food. the best I've eaten in the Lakes by one of their very own country miles. Thanks to all at the Bridge. Sincere, professional hospitality with a flair for attention to detail. I felt welcome and cared for throughout my stay.

Just returned from a fantastic 3 day New Year break at the Bridge. This was part of a package but we added an extra day (30 December). All aspects of our stay were first class and we appreciated the effort that went into the planning, coordination and delivery of the superb evening meals cooked with great flair. The staff were brilliant at all times and what we really appreciated was the consistent standard of service during the very busiest periods of our stay.Full marks to the Head Chef and Lead Waiters for keeping things flowing so well.
The food was definately a highlight. Good wine list also at very reasonable prices.
Part of the attraction of the bridge is that it is TV and Mobile connectivity free - thus you are able to fully appreciate the peace and ambience of the Hotel and mix with other guests if you wish. New Years Eve was spent playing traditional board games and a quiz.
This is a very well run Hotel in good order throughout offering good value for money in a traditional environment. It is a wonderful place to relax and re-charge.
Thank you all for a memorable stay.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are worth the extra cost. Best if you can get a room with a double aspect.

I've just spent Christmas with Friends at this hotel and it was superb.
Room had all the amenities except TV, which surprisingly wasn't missed.
Food in both the main restaurant and the pub attached was top class and even though we were on a special break, the hotel were happy for you to mix and match between the two without additional cost.
Location was beautiful (then again it is the Lake district!) and the staff were really friendly with nothing too much bother.
Special mention must go to Paul in the bar (fellow West Ham fan), Ray on reception, Tilly and Elliot in the restaurant and Steven the general manager.
I would recommend this hotel if you like seclusion and the ability to get away from phones and TV, although WiFi is available in certain areas.
I will definately be returning at some point in the future.

We had a great 5 night Christmas break at The Bridge Hotel rooms were great food was great and staff great. The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day meals were top drawer the only slight critisim would be not all the turkey on Christmas Day was breast meat but other than that it was great. Bar meals are available in the bar and again very good try the homemade pies as they are excellent. Special thanks to Paul in the bar, Ray on reception, Elliot and Tilly and Steven the general manager.
