“Good & Bad”
Reviewed November 2, 2012 via mobile

We booked for three days half-board, but left after two nights; the food was excellent and for the most part the staff friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable except for the fact that we had to climb 36 steps to get there. The bathroom was spacious but the shower was a dribble rather than a shower and the water ran cold. On leaving, we were invited to leave a gratuity which seemed rather saucy in the light of our early departure. We have had far more enjoyable stays elsewhere.

“Cracking Inn”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Five of us were camping at Syke Farm for two nights, just a stone's throw behind this Pub. After a walk over the fells above Buttermere and a refreshing shower we ambled down to the Bridge. It has a traditional feel to it even though most of the internal walls have been removed to make it more open.
Why did pubs do this all those years ago, I forget why?
Four local ales were on the bar, all in excellent order and the menu was extensive. Being the time of year, it was quiet so service was quick, the food was delicious and well presented.
We ate there both on Friday and Saturday and we must have spent a couple of hundred pounds over the two nights so I was a little disappointed when wanting some vanilla ice cream to make an affogato (it wasn't on the menu but easy to do), I was told the kitchen had closed 10 minutes ago. Pressing my point was then met with 'all the vanilla has gone'. mmmmmm?
Anyway forget that little gripe, get up those hills visit the Bridge, have a few beers, enjoy the food and order before the computer shuts the kitchen down!

Excellent? There was a wide choice of meals both in the restaurant and in the bar area, with a superb outdoor sitting area with mountain views for al fresco dining

“Nice range of well kept handpulled real ales!”

I've only visited for a drink on a few occasions but the atmosphere is pleasant and the beer very good indeed. Food menu looks average for the area and a little on the dear side - but what's new? Reasonable-sized though not massive car park. Can't comment on the accommodation. Location very scenic. Worth a visit if you are nearby.
