This was our first stop after leaving Auckland and we were made very welcome by Audrey and Rod in their lovely home.Great views overlooking Waipu Cove and the house itself was very clean and comfortable.Breakfast was served on the patio - a nice touch. Our hosts could not do enough for us and recommended nearby Mangawhai for an evening meal.Highly recommended and we could have spent more time here.

We stayed one night on our way from Auckland to Paihia. It was a beautiful place to stay. The bedroom was spacious and I wish I had as big a walkin closet at home. Audrey and Rod were very gracious hosts and served a delicious cooked to order breakfast. Since we arrived at 7 pm and hadn't had supper Audrey said we should go to the Pizza Barn to eat. Unfortunately it was already full so we ate at a service man's club. I can't remember the name but it was good. The views are stunning. I'd stay there again.

After we have been to Waipu already 4 years ago and definitly wanted return. aurora lodge became our first choice after looking at the reviews on tripadvisor and we did it right.
i have to say audrey and rod the retired owner of this retreat overlooking waipu beach did theyr best to feel welcome. the room we recieved was spacious with huge bathroom. anything was on hand, we got additional beachtowels and the kitchenette with fridge next door helped very much to chill saivgnon blanc for evening leasure. the breakfast was served upstairs with outside sitting option and well done, using homemade preserves apart from fresh fruits and hot cooked breakfast. audrey and rod provided lots of information about hiking trails and things to do around waipu, so we felt beeing truly welcome.

the lodge itself is located close to the road towards waipu cove, which is the surfer beach part of waipu village. the beach itself is a breathaking white sandy beach with dunes, forest - totally unspoilt and a real paradies for beach lovers without any crowd. once again we loved to plunge into the ocean waves, overlooking the islands in front of.
dear reader please note, you 'll barely find warmer water and a safe beach for swimming elsewhere south than along this coastline. not to forget even if the weather is less suitable for a day at the beach, 10 km north is a raffinery which can be visited on a guided tour. or take a walk along mangawhai cliffs apart from other perfect prepared trails.
when it comes to dining dont miss the pizza barn in the middle of waipu where the food based on stoneoven bakef pizza and steaks is as oustanding as the service is friendly. another nice restaurant we discovered was the beach club at waipu cove. lts a bit hidden within the courtyard of the motel but its well signed on the street so you cant miss it. we had the best fish and chips within whole new zealand there , golden brown battered and crispy chips just made to perfection.

if it comes to waipu yes. if it comes to aurora lodge for accomodation 3 yesses.

Room Tip: all rooms are spacious with stunning views

We stayed for one night on the way to the Bay Of Islands. We were made so welcome by our hosts. The lodge is on the hill overlooking the beach and the view from our spacious room and patio was stunning both morning and evening. Breakfast for also delicious. Highly recommended.

We booked out all three rooms for three nights over the New Years break.
The views from the lodge are absolutely stunning! All the guest rooms are on the lower level each with their own terraces.
The rooms are very spacious with very comfortable beds and huge shower rooms. Each bedroom has a perfect picture postcard view.
The owners Audrey and Rod could not have been more welcoming, they even lent us their gas BBQ for our stay so we could cook our dinners.
The lodge also has a kitchen with fridge and crockery for guests to use.
The breakfast is served outside on the deck upstairs when the weather is fine and is cooked to perfection by Audrey, eggs anyway you want them. And plenty of cereals, yogurt fruit and fresh tea and coffee.
The property is set high up on the hill overlooking Waipu Cove, only a five minute drive to the nearest beach access, and less than 15 mins to the lovely Langs Beach.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely want to return when we're next heading up that way.

A great spot overlooking Waipu Beach. Rooms have a great view and the hosts are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended as a stop for the night on your way up or back from the north. Each of the three rooms gave fabulous views out to the sea
