“Perfect place to see in the new year!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

We booked out all three rooms for three nights over the New Years break.
The views from the lodge are absolutely stunning! All the guest rooms are on the lower level each with their own terraces.
The rooms are very spacious with very comfortable beds and huge shower rooms. Each bedroom has a perfect picture postcard view.
The owners Audrey and Rod could not have been more welcoming, they even lent us their gas BBQ for our stay so we could cook our dinners.
The lodge also has a kitchen with fridge and crockery for guests to use.
The breakfast is served outside on the deck upstairs when the weather is fine and is cooked to perfection by Audrey, eggs anyway you want them. And plenty of cereals, yogurt fruit and fresh tea and coffee.
The property is set high up on the hill overlooking Waipu Cove, only a five minute drive to the nearest beach access, and less than 15 mins to the lovely Langs Beach.
We had a wonderful stay and will definitely want to return when we're next heading up that way.

A great spot overlooking Waipu Beach. Rooms have a great view and the hosts are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended as a stop for the night on your way up or back from the north. Each of the three rooms gave fabulous views out to the sea

Aurora Lodge is one of those unfortgettable B&Bs that made our 3-day stay in Waipu an absolute joy. From the moment we walked into Audrey & Rod's stunning house, we felt like we were staying with a relative, or indeed, home. Both are welcoming and generous, and the accommodation itself is fantastic, and well-worth the price ($150 a night from memory, including breakfast) The room is spacious enough, with a Queen bed, large ensuite with walk-in shower, and French bifold doors opening to our own private patio with table and chairs. Upstairs, Audrey & Rod host a lovely breakfast, either on the wrap-around deck if it's warm enough, or in the dining area overlooking the panoramic 180 degrees of the Pacific. Breakfast is either continental (cereals and Audrey's fresh cut fruit platter) and/or full breakfast, with Audrey preparing eggs, and Rod taking care of the tea & coffee, not to mention serving up his own "triple filtered/UV filtered" water!

Waipu itself is a charming, one-main-road town, with a 3-4 options for dining. Waipu Cove is 7km away, and even smaller, with one excellent, if a little pricey, restaurant (Waipu Cove Beach Cafe i think), and a smaller cafe over looking the beach which served excellent burgers, fish & chips and icecreams etc.

The 9km stretch of beach is beautiful, great for long walks, or enough for the kids to keep themselves amused.

Highly recommended for a weekend away!

Audrey and Rod have a lovely B&B that is worth staying at if you are planning on staying at Waipu. $150 a night for cooked breakfast and a beautiful room with king size bed with bifold doors which open out to probably the best views in the country ! Overlooking Waipu beach and surrounding islands. Just gorgeous. Audrey & Rod are such a lovely friendly couple who we shared some very special stories with. We will definitely be back to stay again in the near future ..look no further..give them a call right now and book !!!! You will not be disappointed :-)

We had a great time at Aurora Lodge. Thank you Rod and Audrey for your warm hospitality, and we enjoyed our walk to the Pancake Rocks - such a pretty place.

Aurora Lodge is located on a hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and we had an unobstructed view looking out from our bedroom. The rooms aresimple, but very nice, spacious and clean, and the room had it's own ensuite. The room opened out onto our own patio area. There's a small pantry for making your coffee and tea, a fridge to keep your drinks cool. Upstairs at the lounge, where we have our continental/ cooked breakfast served, is a fabulous fabulous 180 degree view over the Islands, and we enjoyed sitting outside, reading and relaxing with a glass of wine.

Waipu is a small Scottish township about 2 km away, there are three beaches and local shops, a pizza restaurant, maybe two other restaurants and a Chinese takeaway. Four Square is the only convenience shop in town but there are a butcher and vege shop too. Otherwise, there are more shops and a Supervalue supermarket at Ruakaka. We heard that Waipu Museum is a must but we didn't make it there as we spent the whole day at the Highland Games which take place on Jan 1 every year. It was a fun day and we enjoyed it so much! also, we went to a free New Year Eve concert at One Tree Point Marina.

I would recommend Aurora Lodge to anyone who loves privacy, quiet relaxing holiday. I'm happy that I did not stay in a motel, this is one of my favorite B&B's in New Zealand.
