Lunch here whilst on a course nearby and found this place to be a lovely old inn, with character interior, really nicely done and set out. Service good even though very busy. We both had pies - chicken and leek and cheese and onion - which were really nice and good value for money. Didn't have time to stay for dessert. Would be a lovely spot for drinks in the summer, sitting outside and taking in the great views over the moors etc. Recommended.

The panoramic view across the moors from the outdoor seating area makes the drive out to Dick Hudson's well worthwhile. Although only 10 mins from the built up area, it's like a different world - curlews calling & "beware of lapwing chicks on the road" signs!
The food is varied, reasonably priced, well-cooked & in sensible quantities. The service is friendly & attentive & there's always a nice atmosphere. If you don't like subdued lighting, it's worth mentioning it when you book, as a few inside tables are a bit dark.

Yes the food here isn't ground breaking but with most meals under £10 its not meant to be! Food here is nicer than most places and a lot of the dishes are actually fantastic.

The service is the real highlight, you get the right amount of attention and one thing I notice from the village inns owned pubs is the staff are very well trained and genuinely happy to help also.

Negatives would be that as a regular the menu doesn't change often as I'd like, especially when what's already on the menu is pretty expected pub food - maybe it could be more imaginative?

Fantastic place overall though.

Went for lunch with my husband after walking over the moor from Burely Woodhead (you can imagine we were quite hungry!). The pub's decor, atmosphere & service were good but the food was dreadful. A big disappointment & we couldn't understand how such simple dishes could have been messed up.
Having spoken to a friend afterwards I understand the problem & the varying reviews. There is more than one chef & it depends which one is on. Needless to say we won't risk it again.

Although it's part of a chain of pubs so there's nothing spectacular about the food on offer it is good quality fare and the pub itself is a warm and friendly place. There's plenty of variety on the menu and a good selection of wines and beers to help it down. What is unique is the view so a crisp winter's day or a fine summer's day out in the beer garden would be my favourite spot. The view out across Airedale and then beyond to Emley Moor, is just breathtaking. Even Lister's Mill chimney looks exotic! Just to sit and sip a pint of Yorkshire ale looking out across the broad acres is a tonic.
