“Possibly the friendliest pub in England?”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

We booked a night at the Fountain Inn quite last minute on hotels.com taking advantage of one of our free accumulated nights. We normally stay in the Best Western in Burnley with their dog friendly policy although they do normally charge however they were fully booked on this occasion... and oh boy were we pleased as we discovered this little gem of a hotel/inn just outside Burnley in a gorgeous stone village. The owner purchased a ruined shell of a pub a year and a half ago and must have spent a small fortune and a hell of a lot of time to get it back to such a lovely state. The apartment in the attic hadn't been booked so we were offered a free upgrade. The room(s) were a mix of modern and classic furniture with a brand new 32" flat screen TV in the main bedroom. The whole apartment has been renovated to a very high standard with Velux sky lights, exposed oak beams, and a lovely pastel colour scheme. New carpet throughout and a large bathroom with walk in shower. Bed was a comfortable king size. The dogs loved it with the large bedroom and kitchen/diner area to run around in. There was no charge for the dogs either which was a pleasant surprise. The owner is amazing friendly and hospitable. You often hear people saying the same thing but you really do feel so very welcome and the dogs get fussed every 5 minutes which is lovely.

The food in the restaurant was fantastic. We had the festive menu. Everything was fresh and home made. It has a real home cooked feel to it. Nothing looked or tasted like it had come from a packet or cooked in a microwave. Breakfast was equally delicious. We had the smoked haddock with poached eggs and new potatoes. Filling and perfectly cooked.

The pub itself was very loud and busy i guess because of the run up to Christmas so finding somewhere to sit took some waiting but when we did we found ourselves chatting with locals and making new friends. One local even insisted he purchase our round of drinks which was very generous although a little awkward as we really didn't want to accept however he simply wouldn't take no for an answer. They had a huge selection of drinks including some delicious local ales along with the usual Wainwright etc. I had the local Settle (I think) which I really enjoyed.

Overall I can highly recommend this pub/restaurant/Inn for a relaxing weekend away. The rooms (including the smaller rooms - I peaked in) are clean, refurbished to a high standard, and well equipped. The food is excellent, and the pub well stocked. All the staff are extremely friendly as such are the locals. We had a great time and will most definitely be looking to stay here again.

Room Tip: If you can, ask about room 7, the attic apartment for excellent space if you have family or dogs etc...

we were attending a family celebration and as we wanted to enjoy an an extended stay we decided to book a couple of rooms nearby - i found the fountains in through Google maps as one close by and checked out the reviews and boy we were not disappointed. we were shown to 2 really lovely double rooms and then we decided we would have an early dinner before we joined our family. the food was very good and so was the wine, and after an enjoyable dinner we went to our rooms to get ready the and the bathroom facilities were spot on. we had a very pleasant nights sleep followed by a very good breakfast the next day. we can highly recommend a stay in this establishment.

We found the Pub by just browsing the internet. Neither of us had been to this part of the country before even if it is only half hour from home. As soon as we walked in to the pub, Kate the manager was so lovely and helpful we felt at home straight away. The room and facilities were clean, spacious, very nice bathroom and ideally suited to what we wanted. It was a nice tidy friendly village but with a lack of eating places for dinner but lots of coffee shops for daytime munchies.. The food in the pub was delicious on the Saturday evening and a good breakfast btw. The owner Carol made a point of talking to us and making us most welcome, even Jack the young man in the kitchen was a sweetie.
We are planning to cycle over next summer and will be back for certain.

Room Tip: It is over a bar so expect some noise but it didn't go on too late so maybe ask for a room not o...
