“Must visit - best trek - highly recommended”
Reviewed February 22, 2014

If there is only 1 thing that you must do in your Cherapunji visit is the trek to the double root bridge. We did the Double root bridge trek immediately after our bhutan visit where we did the trek to Tigers Nest. I must say that Double root bridge was definitely twice as better than Tigers Nest Bhutan. Plan your travel in such a way that you start the trek in the morning - come back same day late afternoon and then either stay back in Cherapunji or head towards Shillong for a night stay. The trek takes you down to a series of tiring "steps" along the mountain eventually to a river. Along the way you will get a chance to see some of the rare orchid flowers, a host of reptiles and experience "nature" 1st hand. The river crossing is probably the most memorable experience. Its a long long walk along a metal rope bridge around 40-50 feet above the river and you are literally balancing yourself on the single metal rope. if you are not careful there is a high probability that you might slip in from the gaps straight into the river. Its scary - yes - at the same time fun to do. Then starts a tiring walk upto the village and eventually to the double decker living root bridge. there is an option for a home stay up in the village as well. I'd highly recommend folks to visit this "one of its kind in the world" double decker living root bridge.

“The deeper you go in nature's arms the more thrilling it is”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

I really have no words to describe what an amazing place this is. The double decker living root bridge is one of the marvels in today's time. Trekking for about 3200 steps over a length of 3.5 km (One side, so that makes 7 km to&fro with 6400 steps). The on way scenic beauty is phenominal and will sweep your feet off the ground. The natural beauty of an unmatched level offering total happiness. If you are a good swimmer do not miss to swim in the pond which comes on the way that contains blue water. YES blue water, it appears as the place is so clean. If you have good stamina you will be able to finish the trek in 3 hours including your stay at the bridge of about 45-50 mins. but even if you cant the trek in less time it is still worth it. You should carry beers with you in-case you drink and after reaching the place you will feel heaven. An ultimate lifetime experience.

“Living root bridge- Riwai village”
Reviewed January 27, 2014

During my visit to shilling, on my way to Dawki, my friend told me about living root bridge and other attractions like cleanest village, wonder rock and sky view etc. . I decided to visit "living root village", since cherrapunjee was far off, I visited one in Riwai village, East Khasi Hill District., Meghalaya. It is around 70 km from Shillong. When I saw, I was amazed. the bridge is made of living root of rubber tree and functional. but best time to go is after monsoon , so that you can see its full beauty, with water fall.

A must must visit. This picturusque destination is beyond description. When you think of wailking over the roots it is quite scary but once u start u will end it. The serene jungle around, sound of water falls gives a different feeling it seems u are somewhere near Nature Gods Home. I shall never ever forget this experience.
