This is the most attractive sightseeing spot in cherrapunjee. One of the highest falls in the world. The fall is beautiful.. specially in monsoon or after a shower.

Nohkalikai Falls, falling from a height of 1100 ft, is the tallest plunge waterfall in India. Fed by rainwater collecting on a platueau and surrounded by lush green vegetation, Nohkalikai is now the icon of Cherrapuniji, East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya , India.
When we started from Shillong in the morning it was raining heavily. There were apprehensions that due to the rain and clouds, the falls may not be visible clearly. But as we approached Cherrapunji, the rain stopped and we were extremely lucky to view the falls in beautiful sunlight which flooded the valley.Even the Bangladesh plains beyond the hills were visible clearly. Due to abundant rains, the falls was in its full glory. There are also a number of smaller companion falls which enhance the beauty of Nohkalikai. But there is no proper path to walk down to the bottom of the falls.
Tickets are required to be purchased for entry and also for use of camera. Ample Parking space is available. There are also a few decent eateries where one can have mostly tea and snacks. There are viewpoints built along the periphery.
Nohkalikai is named so because of a lady called Likai, who is said to have killed herself by jumping from the top of the falls into the green pool below. You will find a board on which her tragic story is written.
We had a great time strolling on the beautiful green grass and drinking in the beauty of the place. Travellers can also but local honey and cinnamon. An interesting sight for me was the huge cinnamon barks displayed outside the small kiosks.
The awe I felt on visiting Nohkalikai can hardly be described in words.

When we reached the falls, there was a lot of clouds in the air, and so we could not see the water falling, the we surely heard the water falling. The roar of the falling water was majestic! There was a board put up near the falls which tells the story of the name of the falls, which was heart wrenching. The story stayed in my head long after we left the falls.
