“Thrilling and Adventurous”
Reviewed January 10, 2014

if u r an adventure addict then this is the ideal place for u......u have to do trekking or rather crawling to make ur way out of the limestone cave.....so definitely it is not a place for people having heart n health problems....wearing sari or expensive clothes is definitely not a very good idea while te visiting the cave......it is good option to leave ur shoes behind at the entrance before entering the cave else u can face trouble......even it is a better option to leave all those things which can block ur hands behind (may be in ur car) ......the trip is risky and definitely I would not recommend it for small children.....yet it can perhaps be the best part of ur Shillong Cherrapunjee trip if u r an adventure lover like me

“Huuuuu!!!!”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

Mawsmai cave !!! Mind boggling limestone , walking inside the cave is really adventures. One can walk in from one end & walk out from other. We could walk half the way after that it was really fiery because it is dark, rocky, wet & sometimes one has to walk over water. I was scared of insect or some reptile bite so came out. But it is a must visit.

“Nice cave”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

Its an experience walking through this cave. The cave is well lit. Since we went in 3rd week of December 2013, the cave was dry hence easy to walk. In some places, the cave was narrow and low in height hence we had to bend down while walking, so that our head does not hit the roof. Anyone who visits Mawsmai must walk inside the cave. It is a thrilling experience. It is difficult for elderly people but with little coaxing and help they can walk inside the cave.

“Very dark”
Reviewed December 15, 2013

I was really excited to enter a cave for the first time but after entering few meters inside it was very difficult to move in as the passes are very narrow and as the lights inside the cave were not working someone can get easily hurt by falling in steep hole inside the cave.. over all not a good experience...

“Not maintained at all”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

Having been to few similar caves in Araku valley in Andhra pradesh, Wayanad in Kerala, Elephanta Caves off Bombay Coast. The experience was not enthralling or exciting. As like above listed other cave sites in India there was zero maintenance.

Mawsmai Caves is known for the huge formation made up of stalagmite. It looks. An upward trek to the peak of the rock offers a magnificent views of valleys, hills, the rivers of Bangladesh and the plain. This cave is not far away from the Nohsngithiang Falls. The cave of Mawsmai, one of the prime Meghalaya attractions, is famous for its huge halls and galleys, which connect the different halls of the cave.

Although I did not enjoy this place I would not want to discourage fellow travelers. I would recommend this as its one of the major attractions.
