I stayed at the Coniferous Resort with my wife and her parents for three days in the month of October 2012. The location of the resort is just right. Far enough so that you are not disturbed by the hustle, and close enough if you want to access the city center. You get share taxis (sometimes buses too) right in front of the resort. So, moving around the town is very easy. And if walking a few kms is no big deal for you, then you can explore the places in and around the resort as part of your morning walks. In fact you can walk to the Mawsmai cave, Seven Sisters waterfall, and the Eco Park from the resort.

The owners of the place, Ila and Bor are wonderful hosts. They are very helpful and really care about their guests. In fact, they helped me plan my sight seeing in Cherra. If you go to Cherra without your own car, just ask Ila or Bor, and they will arrange one for you. We just landed in Cherra in the morning and Ila and Bor arranged everything in a few minutes.

The staff members are equally wonderful. The manager, Mr Nani Dutta takes care of all your needs. You just have to inform him. Humble and unassuming, he does what is required, without a fuss. To be very honest, the kitchen staff members are young, but they more than make up for the lack of experience with their sincerity. You may not feel confident about their ability to deliver, but they do deliver, each time, every time. So, if you are planning to go for a trip and want an early breakfast, just let Mr. Dutta know and it will be ready at the right time.

In short, a nice, clean, beautiful place with wonderful people.

We stayed 2 nights in April 2012. Food was great, owners & staff very helpful & friendly. could not have asked for more. We walked ti the Masmai Cave from here & it was a very nice walk. They arrainged transport to the trailhead for the Root bridges for us. Only drawback was the faint smell of burning coal from nearby coal mining operations.

A nice place to spend your weekend with family or friends, away from the din n bushel of the city. please try the local food its taste too good, specially the pork dishes with local home made sauce, the owner was very when we asked to serve some local dishes. Bangladesh border is just few kilometers away and the view is spectacular. i wish the resort had a glass room on the roof top :)

Room Tip: try the room on the first floor.

This is a small, nice place located in lower Cherra, a few kilometers down south from Cherra town. It is really conveniently located with respect to Cherrapunjee's main attractions - like the Kynrem falls, Mawsmai caves, Eco Park, and even the Nohkalikai falls. Even the wonderful Dainthlen falls are not too far.
The owners, the front-desk, and the staff are cheerily helpful, and assist you in making sight-seeing arrangements. However, the place seems to be understaffed, which makes the service sluggish and tardy. The food is plainly atrocious - you will be better advised to try the small eating joints around a kilometer uphill near the Cherra Police Station - most notably the Halari restaurant. The double rooms are also a bit cramped, and the bathrooms really tiny.
Most importantly, would you really like to stay in Cherrapunjee? This is certainly not a great place for shopping or dining. The sightseeing destinations are not too far from one another, and can easily be covered on a day trip from Shillong. Make sure you start from Shillong by 8:30-9 am at least, so that you can even factor in the Dainthlen falls in your day trip. The only reason why you may want to stay overnight in Cherrapunjee is to do the trek to the living root bridges - and this is quite a distance from Cherrapunjee itself, much nearer to the Cherrapunjee Resort, than to the Coniferous Resort.
