in the laid back town of imphal, this hotel is a not something one expects, specially given the quality of other hotels there. its bang opposite the kangla park, right in the center of town and next to the court. its walking distance from the secretariat, ima markets, polo ground, war memorial etc. its offers standard 3 star facilities and the service quality is excellent. rooms are quite decent although single, non-ac rooms are without a view. food is good. but the best part, specially for insomniacs, is that some stuff (sandwiches, pakoras etc.) are available even in the middle of the night. there is a nursing home in the same premises just behind the hotel - so 24 hour medical facilities is ensured. and the staff are smart, helpful & competent. hotel also offers wi-fi. cannot comment on its quality though. expectedly perhaps, rooms charges are high in comparison to alternates, but well within big city rates. frankly, as of date it is without parallel or competition in imphal.

Room Tip: ask for road facing corner rooms.

Stayed at The Classic hotel for 4 nights on November 2010. We travelled as an extended family and booked three rooms. The staff was very cordial and cooperative and went way beyond stipulated duties from attendind to my octogenarian grandma in law to my 1.5 yr old son.
The rooms and corridors are spotless and my son could play about bare feet! Room servie was spot on.
The complementary buffet breakfast had enough choices and with the quality of the food, one can easily make a lunch out of that. They were also kind enough to make special complementary arrangements for my son.
The weekend buffet dinner is a gastronomic delight. Last but not the least, try out the special Manipuri Meal (need a day's notice) to make a complete Manipur trip.

Room Tip: Avoid the floor just above the restaurant as the rooma immediately above the kitchen tend to get a l...

This was my third stay at this hotel over the past 2 years. Each one of my experiences has been better than the previous time. This time the bathrooms had been reworked and they were modernised with hot water on the tap ( not that any hot water was needed in this weather) but the main improvement was in the catering - they have a new cafe offering excellent coffee and snacks with a brilliant live band playing on the weekends. The regular restaurant had further improved to provide great and customized food. They tweaked the menu to give me what I wanted at no extra cost.
Love the place and hope they open new properties in other towns - but with the same level if service...

We stayed at the classic hotel in may 2012 and barring a few problems here and there, the stay was quite comfortable.

The rooms were nicely done, very clean and well lit. The bathrooms were very clean as well with 24/7 hot water availability which was nice because even in may, Imphal could get cold during the night.

The staff was very cordial and helpful. The breakfast platter was varied, sumptuous and tasty, but there was no coordination between the reception and restaurant as they charged us as 3 guests + 1 outsider even though all of us were staying at the hotel and it was only later that they confirmed with the reception and corrected it.

However, the room service and the restaurant service were exceedingly slow. The food was delicious and didnt feel like we were in the northeastern part of india because be it north indian dishes or sambhar and dosa or waffles, everything tasted pretty authentic.

The restaurants is popular and well off people of Imphal seemed to frequent it and so the load on the kitchen was told to be immense and therefore, we were told the restaurant could not take our order of authentic manipuri thali as they already had many orders for it.

The wifi is not free and the router for our floor was not working but after struggling with it for an hour, the IT guy gave us a cord to connect to the LAN as they couldn't get the wifi to work.

Overall, a nice place to stay in Imphal which does not have many options. Just steer clear of the shop inside the hotel as its overpriced!

I have stayed at the Classic Hotel in Imphal twice now for several days each visit and I highly recommend it. There are not a lot of options in the area for Western tourists but you will find the stay at the Classic modern, comfortable, and secure. The suites are spacious and well-cleaned with balconies and plenty of room to entertain guests. The staff are extremely prompt, friendly, and professional. The restaurant is very nice offering delicious meals served with grace and attention. The breakfast buffets have a great variety of North Indian and continental fare. The restaurant had great espresso coffee options on my first visit but this past time they only had the staple Indian instant coffee, which is hard to swallow if you're a coffee fanatic. However, it looked like they were building a bona fide cafe downstairs adjacent to the lobby, so we'll stay tuned. Wi-fi is accessible whenever the server is operating, for a small fee. The TV's offer plenty of channels including some with American films. The hotel has plenty of security for those anxious about the political climate. The staff are happy to help arrange tours and you can walk about 10 minutes into the market area or to Kangla Fort. Nothing to do with the hotel, but expect the community to rise early and sleep early, especially compared to Western cities. Things start moving outside on the street around 5:30AM and drivers are pretty attached their horns.

I came to know about this place through trip advisor and stayed in this hotel on my first visit to Imphal. I must share the stay turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Even though most reviews on the trip advisor were encouraging, the actual stay was only better. The service and food are excellent, the location perfect and there are no issues of security. Even transport is easy from here. You can walk upto the Kangla fort from the hotel and the views are great. It is clearly the best option not just for Manipur but even for the neighbouring states.

Room Tip: Look for rooms with a view of the Kangla fort.
