We are Greeks. Left Athens and after a 2 hrs drive, passed Kalamata airport, did right headed to Koroni, we arrived in a small village named Vounaria and in Colonides Beach Hotel. This is not our first visit to this area/hotel. Actually we are passing our holidays there the last 3 years. The hotel is located in a wonderful place, very close to Koroni. It is set among olive trees with a fantastic sea view and enjoys a private small, quiet, sandy beach where you can swim in crystal waters. It is not an organised beach so no umbrellas can be found. Swimming among nature is the hind. The hotel complex itself is modern, simple and very well preserved. The rooms are large, clean with A/C & TV, and a small well equipped kitchen can be found. The rooms also have view to hotel's swimming pool. The hotel staff is friendly, helpful and you can always see a smile on their face. In 700meters from the hotel down the road you will arrive at the Peroulia Beach Restaurant. The food is excellent, made with local ingredients. A beach bar can also be found. The Peroulia Beach is an organised one.
As the hotel is quite isolated, its an ideal place to spend quiet holidays. In order to move around, a car is recommended. An excellent choice.

Rather than turn left to Kardimili out of Kalamata airport,on this occasion we did a right and headed to Koroni.A fifty euro,40 minute taxi ride and you arrive at the Colonides Beach Hotel. The hotel, some two miles or so before Koroni town is set among olive groves and enjoys spectacular sea views. The hotel complex itself is modern,in very good condition and inviting.

By the by,Kardamilli and further down the way,Stoupa attract a fair number of Brits given that the travel firms have made these destinations their own.By comparison,it struck us that the road to Koroni was more residential ie villas with barred gates that you suspect belonged to rich Athenians. The road hugs the coastline more than the mountainous route to Kardamilli and generally appears more affluent.

As far as the Hotel Colonides is concerned,we can really only concur with all the praise it has received. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The accommodation is good and just what you'd wish to find on a beach holiday. The showers are efficient, the beds comfortable. The rooms comprise good cupboard space, table and chairs. There was a cooker, toaster and large fridge in our studio room overlooking the kidney shaped pool.

Around half mile down the road you will arrive at the Perouilia Beach Restaurant. The food here is excellent, very good value and amongst the best we've had in this part of Greece. There is another restaurant overlooking the sea some 200 metres before you arrive at the Perouilia restaurant. On the beach, you can rent an umbrella and sun beds for 3 euros each. You can walk perhaps 20 metres out into the sea and still stand on a sandy sea bottom. The hotel has what can be described as its own private beach. The sign to the beach (just before the hotel entrance,as you travel down the hill)takes you through an olive grove and down well maintained steps to the shore. However, there's no cover there,so you'll get pretty hot.The swimming is more interesting though.

We try to avoid hiring a car from Kalamata airport. We did it once and had a lengthy introduction to every form of car insurance ever devised.I reckon they've got a policy to insure against getting mud on the tyres!Nothing more irritating after a three hour flight. However,I reckon that if you're heading towards Koroni, you might well want a set of wheels. You can getaway without having a car in Kardamili,we've done it.However, the Hotel Colonides is quite isolated. There is a small mini market in the village before you descend the hill to the hotel but it doesn't carry a lot of stock.

Anyway,in conclusion,I can well understand why this hotel gets such sparkling reviews.Excellent and great value for money.

A family run hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely surroundings close to the beach and a lovely swimming pool. Clean, simple rooms with somewhat hard beds. I can definitely recommend this hotel! You need a car to get around and see the surrounding areas..

My wife and I stayed at hotel Colonides at the end of August 2012. That was an amazing experience, perhaps the best hotel experience I have ever had. The location of this hotel is astounding, as it is built on a hill next to the sea. The rooms with sea-view are incredible as they all face the beautiful ancient town of Koroni, which is just 10’ drive away. The view is so breathtaking that I could have spent my entire stay relaxing on the balcony adoring the magic of the Greek sea. Within a 2-3 min’ walk through a path surrounded by olive trees you can reach a small sandy beach with crystal clear water, it’s like this hotel’s own private beach, you will love it. If you need something more fancy after a 10-15’ walk you have reached a big sandy beach, where you can find a beach bar and a restaurant. You can also rent sunbeds. Still a very beautiful, super clean strand. Back to the hotel…The rooms are large and clean, equipped with a/c, TV, free Wi-Fi, small kitchen. They look brand new. But I think the best attribute of this hotel is the staff. You really feel so welcome, as if you belong to the family. They are so nice and polite, especially the young lady at the front desk with the huge smile, which i regret not asking her name so that I can mention it here. I strongly suggest you include breakfast in you booking, it is exceptional!!! I still recall the young lady coming over and over with more to eat, and they all tasted great. Such a rich breakfast, that you can easily pass on lunch and go straight to dinner. The poolside area is also beautiful and quiet. Overall this is quite a relaxing place, it’s like an escape to paradise, and all that very reasonably priced ($80-$90/night, high season). If you are a party animal, please try something else. Having this hotel as your basis you could definitely explore the entire Messinia, it is perfectly located. I promised to myself that I will be coming back for sure. If you have visited this place you know what I am talking about, if not make sure it’s on your schedule when you plan to visit this beautiful part of Greece. You will love it. If only every Greek Hotel owner acted with the professionalism and the love these people put in their business. Congratulations!

We stayed in this place for a few days this summer and had a lovely time. The hotel is very calm, clean, well managed and the service is very good. You feel very welcome! There is a nice swimming pool which children love.
There are lovely beaches nearby.
It is important to have a car to reach the hotel and to explore the area.
We loved it.
