We rented a villa, one of four that had been designed and built so cleverly that none of them overlooked the other, and yet each from its verandah had a view down a sweep of about a mile of olive groves to the gulf and over to the high mountains of the next peninsula. Early in the morning in the cool blue light we could sit and watch the sun coming up over the mountains and turning the bay into a great bowl of shining fire.

The generosity and and kindness of Michael and Maria was inspiring - such a shower of complementary gifts - slippers, dressing gowns, bubbly, olive oil, soap, toiletries,, oranges, vegetables.

What more can I say? We were happy here.

This was our second stay with Michael and Maria at the icon painters Villlas. We returned this time as a party of eight, sons their partners and friend. Having the whole property to ourselves was a real treat and the perfect set up as everyone had their own space.

Two meals worthy of note - the taverna in Kombi and Bougris in Koroni. Lovely authentic food and ridiculously cheap.

If you require sunshine, relaxation, stunning scenery, welcoming locals and superb hosts look no further than The Icon Painters Villas

This is a really good and relaxing place to stay. The villas are perfect, very clean and have everything you will need. They also feel very private. Micheal and Maria are super hosts and the optional breakfasts and dinners are delicious and a great option if you want to stay in but still want a nice home cooked meal. There are many places near by to visit although we only made it to Polylimnio Waterfalls (which was a nice afternoon out), a deserted beach called Turtle Cove (which was amazing although a challenge to get to in the car - directions are in the guide book in the villas) and we visited a couple of nice villages and towns near by. I think this was because the villas and pool and the beach that is within walking distance were all so great you don't need to venture to far if you don't want to. There are some great restaurants nearby, the ones we visited were all a short drive away. I believe there are a couple of places you can walk to but we didn't try these. We visited in the last week in May and the weather was hot and sunny for the majority of the week, only a little rain one day (and a magnificent lightning storm in the evening which was fun to watch from the covered terrace of the villa) and a bit cloudy one other day. This was our first visit to this area of Greece and we would certainly return and also return to Icon Painter Villas. I would describe it as beautiful, interesting and not to touristy but with plenty to keep you busy and very relaxing.
Also I want to add that Micheal and Maria make you feel very welcome without intruding on your holiday and they are very friendly and honest people ( we left £300 in the drawer in the villa by accident and Michael was straight on the phone before we got to the airport and before we have even realised - he offered lots of options to get the money back to us and he did!!!)
Just stop looking and book these villas you will enjoy your holiday here :)

Idyllic setting, beautiful pool, very comfortable bed. Very clever layout that means although there are 3 other cottages on site, you all get a sea view and all are completely private. The owners had beautiful olives, olive oil and marmalade. Wonderful planting by the owners. Didn't think the meal that we paid for 1st night provided by owners was all that. Their own red wine was delicious but the white was not. But what a setting.

A very late review (sorry, Michael and Maria!) of our fabulous fortnight at Icon Painters. Hard to know what to add to the other reviews, other than to say that every enthusiastic word is fully justified. Total relaxation in a glorious location overlooking the Messinian Gulf with the mountains of the Mani beyond, lovely villas, pretty gardens full of herbs and fruit, immaculate pool, some interesting places to visit within easy reach, good choice of tavernas - and of course the outstanding hospitality and warmth of Michael and Maria. We had a memorable morning picking and treading grapes with Mike (definitely a first!), and a particularly hilarious evening with them at a 'festival' that turned out to be an agricultural lecture - happy times.
