What an amazing place to stay for a few days... the location is stunning and a perfect base for visiting the surrounding sights, the marina had everything we needed, the boat was well-equipped and comfortable, and our skipper-for-the-day gave us an outing to remember.
We enjoyed a 4 day stay here with our 2 children (11 & 7) - who still talk about our sailing trip as the highlight of a fortnight's holiday in the Peloponnese, thanks Captain Cliff! - and would highly recommend it for any non-sailors who want a novelty experience. (Charters available for sailors)
On a practical note, we were able to park our hire car very close to the mooring, so didn't need to clutter up the limited space below decks with all our baggage. The marina facilities were also nearby and very clean. There are 2 bars and a small shop on site, and several tavernas within easy walking distance. The main Kalamata town beach with all it's tourist trappings is also close. If you have transport, there are plenty of ancient sights and amazing beaches within a short drive.
Some final words of caution:
- space is limited! (this seems obvious, but needs consideration. Think "camping" and you'll be fine)
- we visited in June when the nights were still cool. We had no trouble sleeping, but imagine it would become harder as the temperatures rise (there are efficient fans in the cabins but they are noisy).
- take mozzie repellents...
This was our first experience bareboating as a family and we took the chance to go out for a familiarisation day with Cliff. The boat was well equiped and had all we needed for a short stay - Cliff was patient and engaged with all of the family brushing up our skills and teaching our young children knots. He stayed in touch throughout the 5 days and gave updates on weather and recomended restaurants during our stay. I would highly recomend it.
