Great Villa with views down to the sea/beach at Praia das Macas and up the valley to Sintra.
10mins to beach/town which are both great - friendly bars, clean beach, cheap drinks and food and good quality produce at butcher's and market (5 mins away).
12 of us (3 families) stayed for a week in August. Really well laid out house, lots of bathrooms, well kept garden and pool and lots of things to do. House is very clean and modern e.g. good water pressure for showers, flat screen tv and surround sound, strong wifi. Solar powered to boot !
Attention to detail is great with well stocked kitchen, 2 dishwashers, washing machine etc. If anything beds were a bit hard and could do with more pillows.
Didn't get enough time in a week to do enough there (no time to play table tennis was a travesty).
Sintra was fabulous and the kids all loved the ride there on the old tram (5 minutes walk from the house).
Definite recommend.

14 of us stayed at the villa for a week and had a wonderful time. There was always somewhere quiet to have some time alone despite so many of us being there. The villa is very spacious and the kitchen is perfect.
There is public transport very close by that takes you into Sintra and plenty of places to eat nearby.
The balcony and pool area look out onto the sea/beach, which made for some wonderful photo's at sunset.
Wifi was fab, pool was spotless as was the rest of the villa.
Ralph was a superstar and left us in peace once he made sure we were all up to speed. Thank you!
I just wish I was there right now!

What can I say..... PERFECT! Ralph (villa manager) was super helpful right from the moment I requested info about this villa. A cheery phone call to explain all the details made me feel comfortable booking a holiday for me and 13 more of my friends. The villa was beautiful and the pictures don't really do it justice. Hearing the waves from the comfort of our veranda was just lovely. Very clean and well equipped for even the largest of groups. All outdoor areas were well maintained and our group made great use of the games room. (Good for keeping the boys occupied!) Really cannot express how happy we were with this choice, just wish they had villas everywhere as would definitely become a regular user of Lisbon Coast Cottages!!

I've just come back from an incredible stay in Casal de Santa Maria. The Villa was large enough to welcome 14 of us and was very clean and tidy. The bedroom that I shared was large enough to fit in 2 singles and 2 luxurious Air beds. The living areas were large enough to fit us all in but we preferred to sit outside by the pool or around the large patio table (again big enough for 14). The pool was very cold for this time of year but that didn't stop nearly everyone taking the plunge. The beach was only a short stroll from the Villa and was very quiet and peaceful. I would recommend Casal de Santa Maria to anyone. Thank you for a most pleasant stay. P.S I highly recommend a little restaurant in the village called Nautilus, cheap and delicious food was eaten by all guests.

Stayed at the villa for 1 week, 10 of us in total including 1 infant. The villa was even better than we expected. Very spacious, clean and in a gret location. The pool and balcony areas were perfect for enjoying the sun. Ralph the owner was great, very friendly but also just left us to enjoy our week. The villa was very well equiped and the addition of stair gates etc made it so much easier with an infant. We made several visits to Taberna do Clube just 2 mins walk along from the villa on the way in to the village. The cafe/restaurant is owned by Rafael and his wife Marina they were both lovely, very welcoming and the food and entertainment were excellent, you must visit!

Finding suitable accomodation for a group of 15 (four families, with kids ranging in age from 3 to 16) is not an easy task, so we were really happy to find Casal Santa Maria. From all accounts, it looked like a great property, but I was still a little nervous whether it would meet everyone's needs and expectations. I needn't have worried, though -- as soon as we arrived, it was clear that we had made the right decision! The villa is even nicer than it looks in the photos, and spotlessly clean to boot. As keen self-caterers, we were very happy with the well-equipped kitchen (two dishwashers, two fridges and a professional quality oven!); the charcoal grill outside also got lots of use.
Another great feature is the excellent use of space, both indoors and out; we never felt cramped, and everyone was able to retreat from the group if desired. In addition to the lounge, there is also a comfy sitting area in the foyer, and on the upstairs landing. Outdoors, there's also lots of choice of where to spend your time, be it the pool terrace, or the front garden. The kids enjoyed playing badminton and table tennis, and of course, swimming! Really, you don't even have to leave the house to have an excellent holiday!!
We did venture into Sintra on the tram (highly recommended!), and spent several afternoons at the beach. Praia das Macas is the closest, though we preferred Praia Pequena (about a 20 minute walk south of the villa). Praia Grande is another 5 minutes along from there, and a bit more lively, with lots cafes and bars, as well as an amazing 100 meter salt water pool. The area is also great for walking -- ask Ralph for directions to Cabo da Roca; it's not to be missed! Or if you'd prefer a pleasant stroll, the pretty village of Azenhas do Mar is an easy 2 km walk north of the villa. The more intrepid of our group enjoyed some great bike trips with Ralph -- thanks again!! Bike rental was a breeze with Cycling Rentals of Sintra -- they even deliver the bikes to the villa! All in all, we had a fantastic time -- if I could, I'd give Casal Santa Maria 6 stars instead of 5!!

Our group of 12 friends (mostly couples) stayed in this villa in september as some sort of late holiday. The weather was fantastic, 25-35 degrees was waaay better than 10-18 degrees we had in Finland.
The location of the villa was nearly perfect - ocean view and short walk to multiple nice restaurants and couple of beaches. There was no need to rent a car or other transfer methods - Sintra and Lisbon were easily accessible using public transports for exploring the country. Local shops and butcher provided us with food for the whole week. There was not much tourists around at a time, which can be considered as a great advantage.
The villa was in perfect condition, having good kitchen and outside barbecue for making food - not necessary to eat in restaurants all the time. The pool was our favourite, being big enough for us to spend a lot of time in it - no way we ever rent a villa without the pool any more! Games like badminton and table tennis were also in heavy use.
And of course Ralph! He was very friendly (and entertaining ;)) person who was very easy to talk to. He gave us good introduction to the local area, and was always ready to answer our questions. It was also fantastic that he was willing to take us on the bike ride around villages, showing some amazing views around.
In overall this trip was amazing, and we would take it any time again. Thanks to Ralph for great assistance and villa!
